A method of packaging liquids, pastes and fluentsolid materials comprises filling a tube formed by welding together the lateral edges of a plastics web or plastics coated paper web, dividing the tube into sections by transverse welded seams, separating the sections and then shaping each section by means of pressure elements 5, Fig. 2, to form a parallelepiped package. The package is produced having four flaps 7 which may be left as shown, Fig. 4, cut off, or folded and welded to the package. The amount of material in each package may be determined by the welding of the transverse seams, or a known amount of material may be fed into the tube when provided with a transverse weld. Filling may be carried out under aseptic conditions.
