Abstract

Pulverulent bonding compositions which may be hardened at room temperature upon the addition of a polar solvent thereto comprise a mixture of an epoxy resin and a normally stable amine complex formed by the reaction of a metal salt and a polyamine. Normally, stable is defined as stable at ordinary or normal conditions of moisture, temperature and pressure. The polyamines specified are alkylenepolyamines, N - alkylalkylenepolyamines and such amines containing aryl substituents. Salts specified are the strong and weak mineral and organic acid salts (such as the halides, nitrates, sulphates, phosphates and acetates) of calcium, zinc, copper, silver and nickel. Epoxy resins specified are epoxidized unsaturated fatty acid glycerides and polyepoxy polyethers of polyhydric alcohols and phenols including novolaks. If either the resin or the complex salt is a liquid it may be absorbed on a finely divided inert solid carrier and/or aggregate. Polar solvents specified are water and alcohols. The compositions are useful for fixing ceramic tiles.
