Abstract
1,002,021. Liquid level indicators. J. FAIRHURST. Jan.29, 1963 [Feb. 1, 1962; Aug. 22, 1962], Nos. 3838/62 and 32196/62. Heading G1H. In a liquid level inducting device an annular float 5 surrounding a scaled tube 1 carries a magnet 6 which moves a ferromagnetic weight 7 within the tube 1 to tighten or slacken a thin metal tape 8 attached to the weight 7 or to a non-ferrous weight resting on the weight 7, Fig. 4 (not shown), the alteration in the tension of which tape 8 operates an arm 15 to actuate a two way switch 14 to energize a motor 12 or 13 to rotate a drum 11 through a shaft 16 and worm and pinion 17, 18 to rotate a pointer 20. When a reading is to be taken a switch is actuated to energize the weight lowering motor 12 to lower the weight 7 into the region of the magnet 6. When the switch is released the raising motor 13 is energized until an upper limit switch 23 breaks the circuit. The switch 23 is actuated by an arm 24 which rides on the tape 8 on a drum 11 and so detects when the weight 7 is fully raised to a pre-determined upper limit. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown) a single reversible motor is used. In a further arrangement, Fig. 7 (not shown), a pneumatic motor is used.
