Abstract

Zinc glutamate is separated by (i) forming a starting material comprising synthesized glutamic acid, crystals of zinc glutamate and a substance or solution capable of providing zinc ions, (ii) crystallizing and separating zinc glutamate therefrom at a pH within the range of 7.5 to 9.5 (if necessary after adjusting the pH from outside to within this range), (iii) mixing the mother liquor with a substance or solution capable of providing zinc ions, if the presence of additional zinc ions is necessary, (iv) adjusting the pH to between 5.5 and 7.5 (if the pH is outside that range) and (v) crystallizing and separating zinc glutamate therefrom. All or part of the zinc glutamate crystals obtained in step (v) may be recycled to step (i).
