Abstract

Sodium acrylate is prepared by mixing a solution of sodium hydroxide in methanol with a solution of acrylic acid in methanol and separating the precipitate of sodium acrylate formed, e.g. by centrifuging or filtering. The process is preferably carried out at a temperature in the range 5-50 DEG C. and the mother liquor after the separation may be reused as a solvent for further amounts of acrylic acid.
