Abstract

1,000,378. Cooling granular material. NATIONAL ENGINEERING CO. OF CANADA Ltd. July 19, 1962 [Oct. 30, 1961], No. 27796/62. Heading F4U. A mass of granular material such as foundry sand, is mixed and mulled in a container 12 by a rotary roller device 15, and at the same time is cooled by air jet nozzles 30 which extend from an air duct 22 into the container 12 at a level adjacent the top level of the granular material therein, air being discharged from the nozzles at sufficiently low velocity as to prevent any substantial carry over of sand particles into the exhaust line 36, 38, hence rendering the provision of a large cyclone unnecessary. The nozzles may enter the container either tangentially or radially.
