Abstract
1424988 Confining and removing dust in industrial processes BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH 22 May 1974 [29 June 1973] 22863/74 Heading F4X Dust generated, e.g. at a coal face 70 by a coal cutting device 2, is confined within air curtain consisting of curved air strata 5 produced by the Coanda effect upon an air stream discharging from a slit 40 with a convex inner boundary surface 41 and an acutely converging outer boundary surface 42. The dust laden air within the air curtain is discharged via apertures 30 into an exhaust duct 3 leading to a dust precipitator (not shown) from which the cleaned air is returned to the fresh air stream near the coal face. The boundary surface 41 may comprise individual curved members of differing radius enabling the nature of the air streams 5 to be produced in accordance with local conditions. The curvature of the air streams can also be changed if required by adjustment of a so-called rupturing edge 43.
