[Also in Division F2] In a ring spinning or doubling frame having rotatable rings guided by stationary rings each rotating ring is mounted in or on a stationary ring by a cushion of air. As shown in Fig. 3 the traveller ring 1, fixedly mounted on a ring 4<SP>11</SP> of inverted U-shaped cross-section, is supported above a fixed ring 13<SP>1</SP>,14<SP>1</SP> by a cushion of air between the rings 4<SP>11</SP> and 14<SP>1</SP>. Compressed air is supplied via a conduit 10 to an ante-chamber 9<SP>11</SP> in the fixed ring portion 13<SP>1</SP> whence it passes, via jets 11<SP>11</SP> in the fixed ring portion 14<SP>1</SP> to form the air cushion. Other forms are described in which the ring 4<SP>11</SP> is of square cross-section and the cooperating surfaces of the fixed ring portion 14<SP>1</SP> are so shaped that the ring 4<SP>11</SP> is engaged by the air cushion either on its lower and outer surfaces or on its lower, outer and upper surfaces. The traveller ring 1 or the ring 4<SP>11</SP> may be provided with a brake and vanes may be provided on either or both of these rotating members so that the compressed air for the bearing may be supplied from this source once the ring has started to run on a cushion provided by an external source of compressed air.
