1,000,297. Transporting low temperature liquids. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Aug. 8, 1961, No. 28566/61. Headings B7A, B7M and B7S. [Also in Division F4] A marine vessel for transporting liquids at low temperatures includes at least one thermally insulated tank 51 comprising an outer shell 49, e.g. of low carbon steel, an inner shell 50, e.g. of plastic sheet, in spaced relationship to the shell 49, thermal insulating material substantially filling the space between the inner and outer shells comprising a number of closely abutting preformed blocks of foamed plastic material, and an adhesive material, e.g. polysulphide polymer epoxy resin and aggregate, between the blocks and the inner and outer shells to give liquid-tight and gas-tight seals. The Specification describes a piping system for filling and emptying the tanks and refrigeration equipment (see Division F4) to reliquefy vapours from the tanks 51 before returning them to the tanks. The vapours may be vented to atmosphere at 63. A source 107 of dry inert gas is provided to condition the atmosphere in a space 47 around the tanks and prevent icing in the insulation between the shells 49 and 50.
