Abstract
374,074. Sound - reproducing apparatus associated with kinematographs. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Nov. 26, 1930, No. 35631. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1929. [Class 40 (ii).] Synchronous driving units, each comprising two stator windings and an unwound rotor, are combined in various ways to simulate the action of machines of known types. In building up a machine of such units a number of rotors are rigidly coupled together, successive rotors being staggered by 360/2n electrical degrees when n = 2, and 360/n degrees when n is greater than two, n being the number of phases for which the machine is designed or, if the numbers on the primary and secondary sides are different, the greater of the two. The windings of the units are so connected that each phase on the one side is linked with each phase on the other. The Figure shows an arrange. ment for the transmission of synchronous movements. Two machines 55, 56 each comprising two rotors 57, 58 and 59, 60 and primary windings 61, 62 and 63, 64 are fed from single-phase mains. The secondary windings 65, 66 and 67, 68 are connected as shown. By giving the two sets of rotors different tooth numbers they can be made to give any speed ratio. For the transmitting machine a commutator-machine of ordinary type may be substituted. This arrangement is stated to be especially applicable for talking films, the picture apparatus being driven by the commutator motor and the sound apparatus by the machine herein described.
