Abstract

The base material has a mono or multi-layer paper web (2) provided under a form of a paper roll (1), where external layers of the roll are glued with respect to each other for forming a rigid external mandrel (3). The roll is fixed at a location, and paper from the paper web is inwardly unrolled in a direction (A) parallel to an axis of the roll, to reach a crumpling machine. The crumpling machine transforms the paper web into a padding material having variable length.

Description

Paper roll with rigid outer mandrel. The present invention relates to a raw material for the manufacture of stuffing material by crumpling a continuous strip of single or multilayer paper.

More specifically, this strip is arranged in the form of a roll, from which it is extracted to undergo wrinkling giving shape to said cushioning materials, used subsequently for example to wedge articles in crates or packaging containers. The creasing is performed by a machine that continuously works the band extracted from the roll, to produce padding elements of adjustable length by the user. In view of growing environmental concerns, the use of creased paper upholstery materials is becoming an increasingly popular and, therefore, used solution. Machines allowing their manufacture, since then used by an ever larger number of workstations, must be more and more efficient and in particular faster. However, if the flow is large, involving a fast machine, the use of a raw material in the form of a roll of paper tape is problematic, insofar as the rollers are heavy and have a necessary inertia overcome at each stop and start of the machine, that is to say whenever a length of padding strip is produced. The sudden tension that applies to the paper web at each start of the drive system specific to these machines is a constraint that weighs in the design of machines, the choice of paper, etc ... It is the same during shutting down the machine. To overcome this problem, it has been proposed to use the raw material not in the form of a roll, as in the present invention, but in the form of an accordion folded strip. The tape is thus stored in rectangular-shaped piles with reciprocating bends in one direction and the other, so as to avoid any problems related to inertia. The batteries are stored in cartons and unfolded according to the machine's printout. The storage in the form of a roll is, however, interesting since it is easy to make and leads to a compact assembly that is easy to transport, store, etc. The production of a roll by winding a strip is a result of well known, fast and controlled techniques. , and the resulting rollers are in principle easily manipulated.

The invention actually provides a solution to the aforementioned problem, that is to say that it allows the use of rollers with fast machines without the problem of inertia is an obstacle. For this purpose, the raw material, constituted in this case by a continuous strip of single or multilayer paper arranged in the form of a roll, is principally characterized in that a plurality of outer layers of the roll are glued together to forming a rigid outer mandrel, the roll being fixed and the paper unwinding from the inside in a direction parallel to the axis of the roll.

The unfolding from the inside solves the problem of inertia. The rollers are actually wound without a rigid inner mandrel. The use of such rollers, without other modifications, however, poses other problems, in particular due to the fragility of the resulting coil, the interior of which can for example collapse, making said reel de facto unusable.

Moreover, in such a configuration, the correct unwinding of the end of the roll is problematic: the last 10 to 30 turns tend to be driven together by the machine, that is to say without unwinding, causing jams in downstream in the machine. Finally, this type of solution can pose logistical problems, the lack of rigid structure of the inner mandrel type preventing palletizing, storage, as usually done, etc. This is the reason why, according to the the invention, there is provided a bonding of the outer layers, to form the rigid outer mandrel mentioned before :. In this case, the rolls may in particular: be palletized, and more generally stored and transported identically to the conventional rolls, because no longer presenting a risk of collapse depending on the thickness of the bond (or the number of superimposed layers glued). In prior known solutions, to overcome at least some of the problems posed, the rollers without inner or outer mandrels were arranged in cardboard boxes, the latter however implying an additional cost. In the solution of the invention, these cardboard boxes are no longer necessary, with a favorable double impact in terms of cost insofar as, in addition to saving the cost of the box itself, the recycling of the carton of said boxes It is moreover to be envisaged. Furthermore, the formation of the rigid outer mandrel is achieved in masked time, during the operation of winding the roll, and therefore entails no additional cost apart from the cost of the adhesive material.

It should be noted that the glued outer part can also serve as padding. According to a preferred solution, the paper forming the roll is chosen so that the roll can be monolayer. This characteristic is also favorable in environmental terms, and at the same time has a favorable economic impact. It should be noted that the fact that inertia no longer has a role to play during the extraction makes it possible to substantially increase the range of usable papers, and thus allows the use of paper of smaller thickness, monolayer, even lower quality sometimes easier recyclable.

5 10 Figure 1 shows, in perspective, a possible configuration of the invention. The paper roll (1), made from a continuous web (2) of paper, for example monolayer, comprises a rigid outer mandrel (3) obtained by gluing together a plurality of outer layers. The unwinding of the strip (2) is therefore from the inside, the paper being extracted in a direction (A) parallel to the axis of the roller (1) to the creasing machine which transforms the band (2) of padding material of variable length. 5 10
