Ainsi, chaque portion d'extrémité, (10A1) par exemple, vient déborder sur le côté en direction de la feuille voisine, (10A2). Une fois qu'elles sont dans cette position, le rouleau presseur (13) immobilise les différentes portions (10A1, 10A2, ....) d'extrémité contre la broche (11). L'enroulement peut commencer. Claims (17)

  1. Core-free roll (10') made up of a sheet (10) of unmoistened flexible material, such as an absorbent fibrous material, formed by winding the sheet about a winding axis, comprising a centre-feed start (10B) projecting along the said axis, with respect to at least part of the plane of one of the flanks of the roll, characterized in that the start (10B) is formed by folding the said end portion (10A) transversely onto the winding axis of the roll.
  2. Roll according to the preceding claim in which the length of the start (10B) ranges between 0.3 and 20 cm and preferably between 1 and 15 cm.
  3. Roll (10') according to Claim 1 or 2, the start (10B) of which consists of a portion (10A) of the internal end of the sheet (10).
  4. Roll (10') according to Claim 1, in which the start (10B) is of tapered shape.
  5. Roll according to Claim 1, in which the start (10B) is made visually stronger by the use of colour.
  6. Roll according to Claim 1, in which the start (10B) is made mechanically stronger by the use of an additional element.
  7. Roll according to Claim 1, in which the start (10B) consists of an element attached to a portion of the internal end of the sheet (10A).
  8. Method of manufacturing a roll (10') according to one of Claims 1 to 4, in which the start (10B) is produced by folding a portion (10A) of the end of the sheet transversely in such a way that it makes an angle that is not a right angle with respect to the axis of winding of the roll and protrudes beyond the edge of the sheet before the sheet is formed into a roll (10').
  9. Method according to the preceding claim, in which the sheet is formed into a roll (10') on a winding support.
  10. Method according to one of Claims 8 and 9, in which the first turns at the centre of the roll are not joined together.
  11. Method according to one of Claims 8 and 9, with the steps of producing the roll (10') by winding the sheet (10) about a winding support (11), in which steps:
    - the sheet is positioned in such a way that at one end it extends on each side of the winding support (11) perpendicular thereto,
    - this end of the sheet (10A) is folded onto the winding axis of the roll,
    - this portion (10A) of the end of the sheet is held against the winding support (11),
    - the winding support is rotated about its axis so as to roll the sheet (10),
    characterized in that before the winding support (11) starts to turn, the said end portion (10A) of the sheet is positioned in such a way that it extends beyond one of the lateral edges of the sheet (10).
  12. Method according to the preceding claim, in which the winding support (11) is positioned with respect to the sheet (10) in such a way that a portion (10A) of the end of this sheet is positioned on one side of the support (11) and the remainder of the sheet (10) is positioned on the other side, and the said end portion (10A) is brought onto the support through a transverse movement.
  13. Method according to the preceding claim, in which the said transverse movement is performed by a blast of air.
  14. Method according to Claim 12, in which the said transverse movement is performed by a part rubbing against the end portion.
  15. Method according to one of Claims 8 to 14, in which:
    - a wide sheet (1) of flexible material is cut into a plurality of individual sheets (101, 102, ...) positioned side by side,
    - a portion (10A1, 10A2, ...) of the end of the said sheets is moved transversely,
    - the said sheets are wound around a winding support (11), and
    - each of the rolls is separated after it has been formed, thus freeing the start (10B).
  16. Method of manufacturing a roll according to Claims 8 to 12, in which:
    - a wide sheet of flexible material is cut into a plurality of individual sheets (101, 102, ...) positioned side by side using a cutting device,
    - the first turn or turns of the roll is or are wound first of all,
    - the start (10B) is produced by moving the cutting device transversely,
    - the said sheets are wound around a winding support (11), and
    - each of the rolls is separated after it has been formed, the starts (10B1, 10B2, ...) thus produced by the ends (10A1, 10A2, ...) of the said sheets projecting from the centre beyond one of the flanks of the roll.
  17. Method of manufacturing the roll according to one of Claims 8 to 12, in which:
    - a cutting device is used to cut a wide sheet of flexible material into a plurality of individual sheets (101, 102, ...) positioned side by side,
    - the start (10B) is produced by moving the winding support transversely, the starts (10B1, 10B2, ...) formed by the ends (10A1, 10A2, ...) of the sheets projecting beyond one of the flanks of the roll once the said rolls have been separated.
