Abstract
Description
Cellulose acetate works well, sticks easily, and can be obtained in various colors, this material is therefore sought for the realization of eyeglass frames or costume jewelry. When, for decorative purposes, it is desired to combine two colors, for example, on the same object, it is hardly possible to do so by stacking two plates of different colors. If one of the faces of the object must have a definite pattern, the only solution is to apply to this object a well known technique in cabinet making: marquetry. This technique is very delicate and expensive and does not lend itself to mass production. The method of the invention that overcomes these disadvantages consists, in a first phase, of compressing in a heated mold, at least two cuts, reproducing the contour of the object to be obtained and made from plates of different colors. the bottom of said mold, on which is placed the cutout whose color is dominant, having a recess in which flows the material constituting the two said cuts, and in a second phase and after demolding, to remove the material forming a protrusion on 25 the blank to the right of the location of said recess to reveal the color of the second plate. The method of the invention will be better understood from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings by way of example only, in which: FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a part to obtain ; FIG 2 is an exploded perspective view showing the implementation of the first phase of the method of the invention; - Figure 3 is the top view of the mold of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a partial view on a larger scale of Figure 3; - Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along the line VV of Figure 4; - Figures 6 and 7 show the formation of the protuberance on the blank; FIG 8 is a partial side view of the blank. Figure 9 shows the appearance of the workpiece after removal of the material forming the protuberance; - Figure 10 is a view similar to that 9, showing another aspect of the room. Referring to the drawings, it can be seen that the problem to be solved consists of an object A, such as a bezel branch made of cellulose acetate, for example, to produce a pattern B whose appearance, in particular the color, will be contrasted with that of the object. The method of the invention also aims to achieve precisely the location of the decorative pattern B. According to the invention, using a mold 1, having a cavity 2 reproducing, hollow, the volume of the room to obtain and whose bottom 3 has a recess 4 whose contour reproduces substantially the appearance of the one to be made on the object. The method of the invention consists, in a first phase, in compressing in the mold 1 three cutouts 5, 6 and 7, the contours of which are those of the object A, a suitable adhesive being disposed on the faces in contact with each other. , the cutout 6 having a different color from that 5 which rests on the bottom of the mold. In the example shown, three blanks are used but, as will be understood hereafter, it is possible to be satisfied with the two blanks 5 and 6. According to one embodiment, the compression is obtained by a cover 8, The total thickness of the three cuts is greater than the depth of the impression 2. Under the effect of compression and heat, the mold being heated, the three blanks deform to fill the recess 4 and it was found a surprising result: the three plates deform substantially as shown in Figure 7. When the blank of the object is demolded it is in the form shown in Figure 8 that is to say that the face 9 of the object, which was in contact with the bottom of the mold, has a protuberance 10. The second phase of the process consists of removing the protuberance 10, by sanding or grinding, so that the face 9 is flat. Experience has shown that according to the thickness of the cuts and the depth of the recess 4, it is possible, as the case may be, to obtain a pattern 25 having the appearance of that of FIG. 9 or that of FIG. It has also been found that it was possible to obtain a pattern in the form of a crescent if the bottom of the recess 4 was not parallel to the bottom 3 of the impression 2. 2907713 4 By a judicious choice of the depth of the recess, the thickness of the cuts and the number of these (four cuts for example), it is possible, for example, to obtain a pattern similar to that of the figure 10, whose color of the central part would be different from that of the object. In the example shown, the cutout 6 is identical to those 5 and 7, this feature resulting in obtaining a contrasting band on the contours of the blank. By using a cutout 6, the dimensions of which are reduced compared to those of the other cuts, it is possible to suppress this contrasting band. If, in addition, the cutouts 5 and 7 are of the same color, it is possible to obtain an object of uniform color, of which only the pattern B comes out at the desired location, a location which results from the choice of the position of the recess 4. According to one variant, it is possible to produce a single cut obtained from a commercial multilayer plate.
In the example shown, the recess 4 is located on the bottom of the mold but, without departing from the scope of the method, said recess 4 can be provided on the cover 8 which is properly cut to behave like a punch and penetrate the footprint 2. 5
