There already exist different types of joints of this kind which consist of two metal elements, of elongated shape, fixed by means of anchoring on two parts of the roadwork facing each other, each of the elements having a row of teeth forming a running surface extending towards the other element, the two rows of teeth being adapted to interlock when the two elements are brought together, the expansion joint further comprising a sealing assembly between said elements under the rows of teeth. An expansion joint of this type is described in document FR-A-2,737,231 of the applicant company. In the previous document, the sealing assembly consists of a seal consisting of a hollow extruded elastomeric profile whose inner cavity comprises partitions, and two extruded metal profiles carrying the seal, each of the profiles being attached to one of the elements of the joint. During the opening and closing movements of the seal related to temperature variations, the seal deforms in the manner of a bellows substantially in the same plane providing a seal under the teeth nested more or less completely seal. However, it is noted that over time, the sealing assemblies of the expansion joints of the type described in this prior document and other similar types, tend, under the effect of climatic variations and as a result of accumulation of dirt and falling objects from the roadway when the seal is in the open or partially open position, to be deformed more or less strongly to cause tearing in places, which prevents a satisfactory sealing function along the entire length of the joint. The present invention proposes to provide an expansion joint of the type indicated above, in particular to prevent damage to the sealing assembly. The expansion joint according to the invention is characterized essentially by the fact that the sealing assembly comprises means for attaching to its upper part to support means spaced along the length of the joint and connected to the metal elements below the teeth carried by them. In a particular embodiment, the support means are rods, preferably threaded, extending horizontally and engaged in guiding cavities 5 formed in the metal elements opposite. The sealing assembly preferably comprises two elastomer seals fixed on either side of a central metal plate extending vertically in the longitudinal direction of the seal, said plate comprising at its upper part means of sealing. hooking to said support means. When the support means are in the form of rods, the hooking means are constituted by orifices provided at the upper part of the central plate, the sealing assembly being fastened to each of the rods by means of fastening means. such as nuts or the like. It will be understood that, thanks to the invention, the sealing assembly can be deformed in the manner of a bellows under the teeth of the joint during the movements of the two facing parts of the structure, while maintaining its position in height by being supported from above. This greatly reduces the risk of damage and tearing of the sealing assembly. In order to better understand the invention, a particular embodiment will now be described by way of example in no way limiting, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a sectional view FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of the expansion joint in the closed position; FIG. 3 is a plan view of the joint of FIGS. 1 and 2; in the open position, - Figure 4 is a perspective view partially in section illustrating the mounting of the sealing assembly, -la figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 of a mounting variant of the assembly sealing, and - Figure 6 is a plan view similar to Figure 3 of an alternative embodiment.
FIGS. 1 and 3 show an expansion joint intended to equip a road structure such as a bridge deck. The expansion joint comprises two elements 1 and 2 of elongated shape, come from aluminum molding in the example described, to be fixed respectively on two parts A and B of the work facing each other and leaving between them a range that may vary. during the movements of the parts of the structure under the effect of temperature variations. The elements 1 and 2 each have on one longitudinal side a series of teeth 3, each tooth having, as best seen in Figure 3, a generally triangular shape and the elements 1 and 2 are fixed on the parts A and B of the work so that the rows of teeth interlock when the interval between the parts of work decreases. Each element 1 and 2 has holes 4 inside which threaded anchoring rods 5 are inserted playfully into respective tubes 6 and screwed at their lower end coming out of the tubes 6 into anchoring tabs 7.
The longitudinal axes of the threaded rods 5 of the same element 1 or 2 extend in the same inclined plane compared to the vertical. The expansion joint according to the invention comprises a sealing assembly 20 generally designated 9 and fixed to the structure parts A and B and to the profiles 1 and 2 below the facing teeth 3. The sealing assembly 9 is composed in the illustrated example of two identical seals 10 and 11 each made in the form of a hollow elastomeric profile having internal partitions parallel to the diagonals of the section 25 and vertical respectively. Each seal 10 and 11 has end walls 12 and 13. The walls 12 are bent at their upper part at 14 so as to provide a wing for fixing the seals 10 and 11 using 30 of mechanical fasteners 15 to the profiles 1 and 2 and therefore to the portions of the work opposite A and B.
Each of the walls 13 has on its upper and lower edges a hooking profile 16 for snap fastening of each of the seals 10 and 11 in a central plate 17, made for example of aluminum, whose upper edges are bent in order to form grooves 18 for snap fastening the upper edges of the walls 13 of the seals 10 and 11. As best seen in Figure 4, the plate 17 has at its upper part orifices 19 for the passage of threaded rods 20 fixed to the plate 17 by nuts 21 screwed on either side of the orifices 19. In the embodiment of Figure 5, the sealing assembly 9 comprises at the upper part of the plate 17 a T-shaped end edge 22 engaged in a corresponding groove of a jumper 23 fixed by nuts 21 to the rod 20. As seen in Figures 1 to 3, the rods 20 disposed horiz spreading and to which is fixed the sealing assembly 9 engage play by their ends in guide ducts 22 formed in the profiles 1 and 2.
During movements of the expansion joint under the effect of temperature variations, a relative sliding movement is thus allowed between the rods 20 and the profiles 1 and 2, thus allowing bellows-like deformation of the linings 10 and 11 constituting the sealing assembly 9 substantially between the arrangement illustrated in Figure 1 in the arrangement illustrated in Figure 2.
Thanks to the rods 20, the sealing assembly 9 according to the invention is supported from above in addition to being attached laterally to parts of structures opposite. As is well appreciated from the examination of FIG. 3, the expansion joint according to the invention consists of modular sections having in practice a length of the order of one meter, each section being arranged to receive two rods 20 or three in the embodiment illustrated in Figure 6 for the support of the sealing assembly 9. The latter, insofar as it is formed of two extruded profiles of elastomer 10 and 11 and an extruded metal section 17 has a length substantially greater than that of the sections of the seal to ensure good continuity in the seal under the seal of the teeth.
Bien que l'invention ait été décrite en liaison avec un mode de réalisation particulier, il est bien évident qu'elle n'y est nullement limitée et qu'on peut lui apporter différentes variantes et modifications dans la portée des revendications annexées, notamment en ce qui concerne les moyens permettant de supporter par le haut l'ensemble d'étanchéité.5 Although the invention has been described in connection with a particular embodiment, it is obvious that it is in no way limited thereto and that it may be provided with various variants and modifications in the scope of the appended claims, particularly in as regards the means for supporting the sealing assembly from above.
