Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an information presentation medium, adapted to move from a folded and flat state to an unfolded state and in volume, in particular of the type used in advertising at the point of sale called POS. Such a support is known from EP-A-1 395 971. It comprises a folding flank serving as an information carrier and holding strips narrower than the flank. The holding strips are articulated on one side to a side edge of the sidewall and the other are connected to the other side edge of the sidewall by means of elastics. The elastics thus exert a stress which, in the unfolded state of the sidewall, brings the two lateral edges closer together with the effect of bending it. The retaining strips serve as a stop at the side edge of the sidewall which is biased by the elastic. Such a support has a disadvantage that the flank is fragile to depression or crushing from its main face for example by a person pressing on it. The object of the present invention is to provide an information presentation medium at least partially overcoming the aforementioned drawback. To this end, the present invention provides an information presentation medium, adapted to move from a folded and flat state to an unfolded state and in volume, comprising: - two foldable sides each having two lateral edges each linked to the lateral edge correspondent of the other flank; and - stressing means for bending the two flanks in the unfolded state in a direction opposite to each other; in which the stressing means pushes on the face of each of the flanks which is opposite the other sidewall. According to preferred embodiments, the invention comprises one or more of the following features: the constraining means comprise: rigid arms hinged together to form a deployable structure between a flattened position and an extended position in which the structure repels the flanks of each other; and resilient means biasing the structure to the extended position; the deployable structure comprises four arms forming two pairs of arms arranged facing each other with the arms of the first pair being hinged together so as to be able to bend towards a first direction and the arms of the second pair being hinged together; to be able to bend towards a second direction opposite to the first direction; one end of each arm of each pair of arms is pivotally connected to a corresponding flank; and an elastic strap connects the two pairs of arms together by biasing each pair of arms in the direction of their unfolding so that said ends of the arms push the flanks one from the other; the arms are made of a flat material; and the arms of each of the pairs of arms are articulated to each other by means of a tongue that has one of the arms and which is inserted into a slot that has the other of the arms; a first part comprises a first arm of the first pair and a first arm of the second pair and a first strip of material interconnecting these first arms, the first part being fixed on one of the sidewalls by virtue of the first strip of material; and a second part comprises the second arm of the first pair and the second arm of the second pair and a second strip of material interconnecting these second arms, the second part being fixed on the other side by the second band of material ; the first piece and the second piece are identical; each arm has a slot opening on one edge, the elastic band being held by each of said open slots; and the support defines several sections of folded flanks on each other when the support is folded and in which each section comprises at least one corresponding deployable structure. Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description of a preferred embodiment of the invention, given by way of example and with reference to the appended drawing.
Figure 1 shows a rear view of a support according to the invention with one of the flanks omitted. FIG. 2 represents a perspective view of the support of FIG. 1 complete, and in which the constraint means for bending the flanks and the tongues for fixing the flanks, which are internal to the support, and therefore normally not visible from the outside; , are shown by considering fictitiously that the flanks are transparent. FIG. 3 shows a constituent element of the constraining means for bulging the flanks of the support of FIG. 1. FIG. 4a shows in isolation the constraint means for flanking the flanks in their position when the support of FIG. folded and flat state. FIG. 4b shows in isolation the constraint means for bending the flanks in their position when the support of FIG. 1 is in the unfolded state. Figure 5a illustrates the support of Figure 1 in the partially folded state. Figure 5b shows a perspective view of the support of Figure 1 by observing from above. The information presentation medium according to the invention is of the type intended to be able to pass from a folded and flat state to an unfolded state and in volume. In this way, the support can be conveniently transported flat with a small footprint. In the place where it is intended to be used for information presentation purposes, it is unfolded and put in volume, which may be sufficient for the support to stand up even without foot reported.
The support comprises two flanks each having two lateral edges each connected to the corresponding lateral edge of the other sidewall. The outer faces of the flanks serve as a support for the information to be presented, for example by printing or by gluing on them. Both sides are foldable, which allows the support to be provided in the folded state.
The support comprises constraining means which serve to bend the two flanks in a direction opposite to each other when the two sides are in the unfolded state, that is to say when the support is in the unfolded state. Thanks to these means of constraint, the support is automatically and quickly set volume as a result of the unfolding of the support.
More particularly, the stressing means push on the face of each of the flanks which is opposite the other sidewall. In this way, the means of restraint serve not only to bulge the flanks, but also to stiffen the bulging flanks. In other words, the means of constraint advantageously oppose any depression or crushing of the flanks from their main faces.
Referring to the figures, we will describe in more detail an embodiment of an information presentation medium according to the invention which is in the form of a column having a section substantially to two symmetrical arcs when it is in the unfolded state and in volume. The support comprises two identical flanks 1. A flank 1 is made of a sheet, for example a sheet of cardboard or plastic. The skilled person chooses a sheet having sufficient flexibility to allow it to bulge under the effect of the stressing means and sufficient rigidity to maintain the curved state. Each flank 1 has one or more transverse folds 3. The folds 3 can fold the support in the form of sections folding on each other flat. A side edge of the sidewall 1 has tabs 2, preferably over the entire height, except at the folds 3. The tabs 2 allow assembly by bonding the side edges of each side 1 with the side edges of the other side 1. Preferably, a fold is formed between the tongues 2 and the sidewall 1 so that the tongues 2 are hinged to the sidewall 1. Alternatively, a flank 1 can be made with several sheets joined together, for example by a tongue 2 'arranged on the lower edge of one and used to glue to the upper edge of the other or vice versa. The constraint means for bending flanks 1 in the unfolded state comprise two identical pieces 4 and an elastic strap 5. A piece 4 shown flat is illustrated in FIG. 3. Each piece 4 is made of a rigid material, for example rigid cardboard. It comprises two arms 12 connected to each other by a band 8. The band 8 serves as bonding back for fixing the piece 4 on the inner face of one of the flanks as can be seen in FIG. 1. The two arms 12 are connected to the band 8 by a respective fold allowing the arms 12 to pivot relative to the band 8. One of the arms 12 has a tongue 10 while the other arm 12 has a slot 11 of corresponding size. Two identical pieces 4 are assembled together by inserting the tongue 10 of each in the slot 11 of the other as is best seen in Figure 4b. The cooperation of a tongue 10 and a slot I l provides a joint between the two arms 12 concerned. A first pair of articulated arms 14a is thus obtained which is capable of folding towards a first direction and a second pair of arms 14b articulated with each other facing the first pair 14a and which is capable of folding towards a second direction opposite to the first direction. The device thus obtained forms a deployable structure between a flattened position illustrated in FIG. 4a and an extended position illustrated in FIG. 4b.
The tongue 10 inserted in the slot 11 advantageously provides a stop preventing the two corresponding arms 12 preventing them from bending in the second direction with respect to the first pair of arms 14a and in the first direction with respect to the second pair of arms. 14b. Furthermore, each arm 12 has a slot 9 opening on an edge. Once the parts 4 assembled together as explained above, an elastic strap 5 is put in place in the four slots 9 and thus connects the two pairs of arms 12 between them. The elastic strap 5 acts on the arms 12 with the effect of biasing each pair of arms 12 in the direction of their unfolding. In other words, the deployable structure is biased from the flattened position to the extended position.
R:` arc. el, 2490024917--060223-DcmandcFR.doc Moreover, the stop function of the tongues 10 inserted in the slots 11 prevents the elastic strap 5 from urging each of the two pairs of arms 14a and 14b beyond the extended position illustrated in FIG. 4b. R..13rc, 249D0 ', 24917-060223-DcmandcFR.doc The deployable structure with its elastic strap 5 is arranged between the sides of the support by gluing the strip 8 of each piece 4 on an inner face of a flank 1 respective. Thus, as can be seen in FIG. 5b, when the support is unfolded, the deployable structure repels the flanks 1 from one another under the action of the elastic strap 5, with the effect of bombarding them. In other words, the deployable structure with its elastic strap 5 automatically ensures the volume of the support as soon as it is unfolded. On the contrary, when the support is in the folded state, the deployable structure is flattened - as illustrated in Figure 4a - between the flanks 1 of the support and remains in this state despite the action of the elastic strap 5 due to the folded state of the support. The deployable structure as exemplified is advantageously reversible. In other words, it allows the support of the unfolded state and volume in the folded state and flat by acting against the constraint means. A foot 7 - known per se - can be arranged at the lower section of the support to ensure a better stability to the support. This foot 7 may further comprise a base 13 - also known per se for protecting the support from moisture. The base 13 is preferably foldable type to be laid flat with the support in the folded state. It can be made of honeycomb polypropylene. The assembly of the support can be done in the following way: - assembly of the deployable structures with their elastic strap 5 on the one hand and on the other hand, gluing of the first sidewall 1 on the second sidewall 1 along one of their side edges; -collage deployable structures equipped with their elastic bracelets 5, by one of the strips 8 on the inner face of one side and gluing the other band 8; and gluing the free lateral edge of one of the flanks 1 and assembly with the free lateral edge of the other sidewall 1. Thus, as already mentioned, the stressing means push on the face of each of the flanks which is opposite the another flank with the effect of both bulging flanks and stiffening them. On the other hand, providing additional stiffening against crushing of the support by support at the lateral edges of the flanks - as is the case in EP-A-1 395 971 - has less utility. Indeed, the risk of crushing at this location is lower because often only the main face of one side (and carrying the information) is oriented towards people, not their side edges. In addition, the support itself has greater rigidity at the level of the connection of the side edges of the sidewalls 1 because this connection is angular as shown in Figure 5b and thus provides a resistance to penetration greater than that R: Brc ^ cis`24900124917-060223-DcmandcFR.doc at the side of the flank devoid of reinforcement element. This resistance is further increased by the fold of the tongues 2 on the sides 1, as well as the gluing of the tongues 2 of each side 1 to the other side 1. Naturally, the present invention is not limited to the examples and the method embodiments described and shown, but it is capable of many variants accessible to those skilled in the art. Thus, it can be expected that a deployable structure has two elastic bracelets 5 or more instead of one in the case of large support sizes. In this case, each arm 12 may have a number of slots 9 equal to the number of elastic bracelets 5. R: `arc. el, 2490024917--060223-DcmandcFR.doc
