Abstract

The invention concerns a device for separating, in the output of a multiple-blade edger saw (1) usable central sawn products and edgings forming waste to be eliminated. Said waste is received by two symmetrical lateral assemblies (3), with separating rollers (8), transversely mobile to be brought in line with the outer blades of the edger saw (1). The central products are received by a central assembly (5), with rollers (20) capable of being raised, mobile between a high position wherein it is at the level of the lateral assemblies (3), and a low position wherein it is at the level of evacuation rollers (6, 26). Two separator discs (4), located above the rear parts of the two lateral assemblies (3), are also aligned with the blades and are engaged between the central sawn products and the edgings.

Description

The present invention relates, in general, to machines and

  sawing installations for wood, used in sawmills. It relates, more particularly, to a device which ensures the separation of products sawn longitudinally, at the outlet of a edger with multiple blades. A multi-blade edger is a machine which generally uses several circular saw blades which can be moved transversely, so as to adapt to the characteristics of the products

  sawing, and cutting sawn products of the desired width.

  At the outlet of such a edger, there are on the one hand usable sawn products, which must be removed, and on the other hand, on the sides of the usable products, products constituting waste which must be ejected. For this purpose, it is advisable to separate the waste from usable sawn products, this compulsory separation operation being complicated by the fact that the width of the usable sawn products is variable, and therefore the transverse position of the waste to be eliminated is also variable, depending on the blade spacing

exterior of the edger.

  The usual separation devices, placed behind the edgers, consist of slitting knives or sheets, movable transversely, which are aligned by mechanical means with the circular blades of the edger, so as to "follow" the transverse movement of said blades. In general, the same train of rollers drives, on either side of the knives or slitting plates, the waste which is ejected, and in the center, the usable sawn products which are discharged further downstream. There are also known devices comprising, for the ejection of waste, rollers which can be moved laterally, with ejection spirals, while an endless strip recovers and drives the products forward.

  In all cases, the current separation devices retain drawbacks: On the one hand, the knives or slitting plates carry a risk of jamming in the wood, so that they can no longer play their role of separation by mechanical effect . This can happen in particular if the cutting knives or sheets are not perfectly aligned with the edger blades, or if the leading edge of these knives or sheets is

  On the other hand, the known separation devices become difficult to use, in the case where the thickness of the sawn products becomes large. If their operation is generally satisfactory enough for products of the "board" type, of a thickness between mm and 40 mm, the separation of thick products of the "core" type, the thickness of which can be between 100 mm and 250 mm, even 300 mm, poses specific problems: - The usable sawn product (s), located in the central position, risk taking an undesirable inclination,

  especially in the case of an installation with side rollers.

  - The waste, itself of great height, risks tipping and falling on the inside, between the side rollers, instead of being retained and evacuated laterally on

  these rollers, so that the separation is not carried out.

  - Usable sawn products, located in the center, are not

  supported during sawing and are then in "door-to-door"

  The present invention aims to avoid all of the drawbacks previously exposed, by providing an improved separation device, reliably ensuring the separation between the usable sawn products and the waste, while improving the conditions for guiding and removing the products. from sawing, this device being

  particularly suitable for thick sawn products.

  To this end, the invention essentially relates to a device for the separation of sawn products, at the outlet of a edger with multiple blades, device which essentially comprises, in combination: - two symmetrical lateral assemblies, capable of receiving and driving in before the lateral sawn products, which constitute waste to be eliminated, the two lateral assemblies being movable transversely and in opposite directions, to be brought into correspondence respectively with the two outer blades of the edger; a central assembly capable of receiving and driving forward the central sawn products which can be used, the central assembly being movable between a high position, in which it is situated substantially at the level of the two aforementioned lateral assemblies, and a low position in which it is located substantially at the level of means for evacuating usable sawn products; - two separating discs, located respectively above the rear parts of the two aforementioned lateral assemblies, the separating discs also being displaceable transversely so as to be brought respectively into correspondence with the two outer blades of the edger, and these separating discs being provided for s between the central sawn products and the products

side sawn.

  In a preferred embodiment of the separation device that is the subject of the invention, the two lateral assemblies, capable of receiving and driving forward the lateral sawn products constituting the waste, are two symmetrical assemblies of separating rollers mounted to rotate about horizontal axes , with motor means for driving these rollers in rotation. More particularly, according to an embodiment of the device, in each lateral assembly all the

  separator rollers are held on one side only and linked to a beam

  horizontal common support, itself integral with two carriages respectively rear and front, guided on transverse elements belonging to a fixed frame, motorized means being provided for

  moving the carriages along the aforementioned transverse guide elements.

  As for the separating discs, each of these discs is mounted freely rotating about a horizontal axis, carried by an oscillating arm pivotally mounted, along a horizontal axis, on a support movable transversely. In a simple embodiment, the support of each separating disc is carried by the rear part of the support beam of the lateral assembly located on the corresponding side, and is movable transversely with this lateral assembly, to be brought in

  correspondence with the two outer blades of the edger.

  The central assembly, capable of receiving and driving forward the usable central sawn products, is advantageously a set of liftable rollers mounted rotating around horizontal axes, with

  motor means for driving these rollers in rotation.

  More particularly, the liftable rollers of the central assembly are spaced from one another at regular intervals, equal to the spacing intervals of the separating rollers belonging to the two lateral assemblies, this configuration allowing that, in the high position of the assembly central, the liftable rollers thereof

  are inserted between the separating rollers of the two lateral assemblies.

  According to one possible embodiment, the liftable rollers of the central assembly are carried by an elongated movable chassis, connected in an articulated manner by connecting rods to a fixed base chassis to form a deformable parallelogram structure, motor means such as a jack being provided to control the deformation of this structure in order to move the movable frame, therefore the liftable rollers, between their high position and

their low position.

  Thus, the separation device, object of the invention, uses in its preferred configuration trains of rollers of different levels,

  that line up precisely on the edger blades.

  In particular, the two lateral assemblies comprise rollers which receive and evacuate sawing waste, by positioning themselves in correspondence with the two outer blades of the edger. As for the liftable rollers, these come to support during sawing, and especially at the end of sawing, the central sawn products, thus avoiding any risk of blocking or tilting of these central products, including the "cantilever> is avoided, the liftable rollers also depositing the central sawn products gently sawn on the discharge means, which can be constituted by another train of rollers The fact that the liftable rollers are inserted between the separating rollers allows said liftable rollers to come to the high position and ensure their function, even in the case where the rollers

  transversely and avoids their tilting.

  Other essential means of the device according to the present invention are the two separating discs. These discs, of relatively large diameter and preferably having a beveled circular edge, are positioned in the same alignment as the separating rollers, which they overcome, and they engage, by the sole effect of gravity, between the sawn products central and lateral sawn products (waste). The use of such separating discs leads to the following advantageous results: Being freely rotatable on their axes, the separating discs avoid any risk of jamming or jamming, as there is in the case of knives or fixed slitting plates. - These separating discs constitute, unlike the means currently used, a suitable solution for the separation of sawn products of large thickness, which can

reach 300 mm.

  - The separating discs guarantee that the lateral sawn products are well apart, and do not fall back into the central "hole" created between the separating rollers, displaceable transversely, when the sawed products

central are lowered.

  - Finally, insofar as said separating discs are mounted on the same support beams as' the separating rollers, they require only a minimum of means for their mounting and their displacement, so that they constitute a particularly technical solution simple and economical. The invention will in any case be better understood using the

  description which follows, with reference to the attached schematic drawing

  representing, by way of example, an embodiment of this device for separating sawn products, at the outlet of an edger: Figure 1 is a side view of a device for separating sawed products according to the present invention , with partial and very schematic indication of the edger at the outlet from which the device is placed; Figure 2 is a plan view from above of the rear part of the separation device, with partial representation of the edger; Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of this separation device; Figures 4 and 5 are diagrams illustrating the operation of the device object of the invention, respectively during sawing and after sawing. Referring to Figures 1 to 3, there is partially shown an edger 1 of a known type, which has for example four circular blades 2, parallel and movable transversely, that is to say along the direction of their horizontal axis common A. The invention relates more particularly to the equipment provided on the outlet side of the edger 1, equipment which receives the products sawn by the blades 2, advancing according to arrow F, and which evacuate these products while separating them . In this regard, while also referring to the diagrams of FIGS. 4 and 5, it is a question of separating the central product or products C, which can be used, with respect to

  lateral products D, which constitute waste for disposal.

  In general, the equipment considered, the combination of which constitutes a device for separating sawn products, here comprises: - two symmetrical sets 3 of lateral separating rollers; - two separating discs 4 - a set 5 of lifting rollers - a train 6 of rollers for evacuating usable sawn products; - a fixed frame 7 in the form of a gantry, serving as support for the sets 3 of separating rollers, as well as for the discs

separators 4.

  Each set 3 of lateral separating rollers comprises a series of rollers 8, arranged horizontally in line at regular intervals, all the rollers 8 being mounted rotating around transverse horizontal axes, mutually parallel. In each set 3, all the rollers 8 are thus linked to the same horizontal support beam 9, located on the outside, so that the rollers 8 are mounted cantilevered. The rollers 8 of one of the sets 3 are located in correspondence with the rollers 8 of the other set 3, symmetrical to the first. The spacing between the respective rollers 8 of the two assemblies 3 is adjustable, FIGS. 2 and 3 indicating in continuous lines the position of maximum spacing, and in dashed lines the position

  minimum roller spacing 8.

  In each set 3, the rollers 8 are motorized in a synchronized manner, being rotated all in the same direction, around their respective axes, for example from a common motor

  and via an endless chain (not shown).

  The beam 9 of each assembly 3 is connected, towards its ends, to two carriages 11 and 12, respectively rear and front. The frame 7 comprises, in its upper part, a rear upper cross member 13 and a front upper cross member 14, which respectively constitute

  horizontal rails for the aforementioned carriages 1 1 and 12.

  More particularly, the respective rear carriages 1 1 of the two sets 3 of separating rollers are mounted on the rear crossmember 13, and the respective front carriages 12 of the two sets 3 of separating rollers are mounted on the front crossmember 14. Driving means are provided to move simultaneously, and in opposite directions, on the one hand the two rear carriages 11, and on the other hand the two front carriages 12. In addition, for each set 3, the rear carriages 1 1

  and before 12 are synchronized with one another by an appropriate link.

  The two separating discs 4 are respectively associated

  to the two sets 3 of lateral separating rollers.

  Each separating disc 4 is mounted freely rotating about a horizontal axis 15, carried by an oscillating arm 16 which pivots in a vertical plane along a horizontal axis 17, on a vertical support 18 itself carried by the rear part of the beam 9. This separating disc 4 has a bevelled circular edge, which lies in the vertical plane

  passing through the inner ends of the separator rollers 8.

  The set 5 of lifting rollers is arranged in the central lower part of the device. It comprises an elongated movable frame 19, which carries a series of rollers 20 arranged in line, at regular intervals, all the rollers 20 being mounted rotating around transverse horizontal axes, mutually parallel. The movable chassis 19 is articulated in an articulated manner, by rear 21 and front 22 connecting rods, to a fixed base chassis 23 situated below this mobile chassis 19, the assembly

  forming a deformable parallelogram structure.

  A lifting cylinder 24, mounted between the ground and the movable chassis 19, makes it possible to move this chassis 19 between a low position (in solid lines in FIG. 1 and in dashed lines in FIG. 3) and a position

  high (in dashed lines in Figure 1 and in solid lines in Figure 3).

  In the high position of the movable frame 19, the spacing interval of the lifting rollers 20 being equal to that of the rollers 8 of the sets 3 of separating rollers, the lifting rollers 20 are inserted between the separating rollers 8, all of these rollers being substantially at the same height. However, the upper generators of the lifting rollers 20 are located a little lower than the generators

  separator rollers 8.

  The lifting rollers 20 are motorized in a synchronized manner, being rotated all in the same direction, about their respective axes, for example from a common motor.

  Finally, the train 6 of rollers for evacuating the sawn products that can be used is located in the downstream extension of the assembly 5 of liftable rollers. This train 6 includes rollers 26, also driven in motorized rotation. The discharge rollers 26 are located at the same height as the lifting rollers 20, when the latter

occupy their low position.

  The operation of the separation device, previously described, will now be explained, also referring to the diagrams of the

Figures 4 and 5.

  We consider here initially an instant when the sawn products C and D, leaving the edger 1 according to arrow F, arrive at the separation device. The two sets 3 of separator rollers 8 have been brought, transversely, into positions corresponding to those of the two outer blades 2 of the edger, and the separator discs 4 also have transverse positions which correspond to those of said outer blades 2. The set 5 of liftable rollers 20 has been,

  meanwhile, brought up.

  The sawn products C and D advancing simultaneously, along arrow F, the separating discs 4 are positioned and maintained between the central products C on the one hand, and the lateral products D on the other hand, under the effect of gravity . It is thus ensured that the lateral products D, which

  constitute the waste, are well separated.

  This waste D reaches the two sets 3 of separating rollers 8, which evacuate them forwards or eject them

laterally, on both sides.

  Simultaneously, the central products C reach the lifting rollers 20, held in the high position. The fact that these liftable rollers 20 are then located slightly lower than the separator rollers 8 ensures a certain separation, while improving

  the lateral retention of the central products C, by a kind of embedding -

see figure 4.

  When the sawing by the blades 2 is finished, and the central products C are thus "free", the set 5 of liftable rollers 20 is lowered, by the jack 24, to its low position located at the level of the train 6 of discharge rollers - see FIG. 5. The central products C, intended to be used, are then brought gently onto the discharge rollers 26, the means for rotating the

  rollers 20 and 26 being suitably actuated.

  Once all of the central products C have reached the train 6 of evacuation rollers, the lifting cylinder 24 is actuated to bring the set 5 of liftable rollers 20 in the high position. A new operating cycle, similar to that previously described,

can thus be performed.

  Between two consecutive cycles, if the sawing width is modified, the sets 3 of separating rollers 8 are moved transversely, for example by being brought closer to one another between a cycle and the following cycle. It will be noted that this transverse adjustment can be made in masked time, the separating rollers 8 can be already brought together, without encountering any obstacle, during the phase of evacuation of the

  central products C (the lifting rollers 20 then being lowered).

  In the same vein, sawing can begin before the returnable rollers 20 return to the high position, the main thing being that these rollers 20 support the central products C from the moment that they risk presenting a "door to -false "important, so

middle or end of sawing.

  It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this sawing product separation device which has been described above, by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all

  variant embodiments and applications respecting the same principle.

  It is thus, in particular, that one would not depart from the scope of the invention: - by using any suitable motor means, for driving the various rollers in rotation and for controlling other movements, such as the transverse displacement of the sets of lateral separating rollers and the lifting of the set of lifting rollers - by replacing the two sets of lateral separating rollers by endless bands or equivalent - by mounting the separating discs on all supports, provided that these discs are positioned in correspondence with the outer blades of the edger, which saw the waste; - finally, by using this device for separating sawn products from all types of edgers, with more or less blades

less numerous.

Claims (10)

  1. Device for the separation of products sawn longitudinally, at the outlet of an edger (1) with multiple blades (2), characterized in that it essentially comprises, in combination: - two lateral assemblies (3) symmetrical, suitable for receive and drive forward the side sawn products (D), which constitute waste to be eliminated, the two side assemblies (3) being movable transversely and in opposite directions, to be brought into correspondence respectively with the two outer blades (2) of the edger (1); - A central assembly (5) capable of receiving and driving forward the central sawn products (C), usable, the central assembly (5) being movable between a high position, in which it is located substantially at the level of the two lateral assemblies (3) mentioned above, and a low position in which it is situated substantially at the level of means for removing (6) usable sawn products (C);   - two separating discs (4) located respectively at-   above the rear parts of the two aforementioned side assemblies (3), the separating discs (4) also being transversely displaceable so as to be brought respectively into correspondence with the two outer blades (2) of the edger (1), and these separating discs ( 4) being intended to engage between sawn products   central (C) and lateral sawn products (D).   2. Device for separating sawn products according to claim 1, characterized in that the two lateral assemblies (3), capable of receiving and driving forward the sawn 'lateral products (D) constituting the waste, are two symmetrical sets of rollers dividers (8), rotatably mounted around horizontal axes, with   motor means (10) for driving these rollers (8) in rotation.   3. A device for separating sawn products according to claim 2, characterized in that, in each lateral assembly (3), all the separating rollers (8) are held on one side only and connected to a common horizontal support beam (9 ), itself integral with two carriages (11, 12) respectively rear and front, guided on transverse elements (13, 14) belonging to a fixed frame (7), motorized means being provided for moving the carriages (11, 12) along the aforementioned transverse guide elements (13, 14). 4. Device for separating sawn products according to one   any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that each disc   separator (4) is mounted freely rotating about a horizontal axis (15), carried by an oscillating arm (16) pivotally mounted, along an axis   horizontal (17), on a support (18) movable transversely.   5. Device for separating sawn products according to the assembly   claims 3 and 4, characterized in that the support (18) of each   separator disc (4) is carried by the rear part of the support beam (9) of the lateral assembly (3) located on the corresponding side, and is movable transversely with this lateral assembly (3), to be brought in   correspondence with the two outer blades (2) of the edger (1).   6. Device for separating sawn products according to one   any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that each disc   separator (4) has a bevelled circular edge.   7. Device for separating sawn products according to one   any of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the assembly   central (5), capable of receiving and driving forward the central sawn products (C) which can be used, is a set of lifting rollers (20) mounted to rotate about horizontal axes, with motor means (25) for   The rotary drive of these rollers (20).   8. Device for separating sawn products according to the assembly   claims 2 and 7, characterized in that the lifting rollers (5)   are spaced from each other at regular intervals, equal to the spacing intervals of the separating rollers (8) belonging to the two lateral assemblies (3), and in that, in the high position of the central assembly (5), the lifting rollers (20) thereof are inserted   between the separator rollers (8) of the two side assemblies (3).   9. Device according to claim 8, characterized in that, in the high position of the central assembly (5), the liftable rollers (20) thereof are located slightly lower than the separator rollers   (8) of the two lateral assemblies (3).   10. Device according to any one of claims 7 to 9, characterized in that the liftable rollers (20) of the central assembly (5)   are carried by an elongated movable frame (19), connected in an articulated manner by connecting rods (21, 22) to a fixed base frame (23) to form a deformable parallelogram structure, motor means such as a jack (24 ) being provided to control the deformation of this structure   in order to move the movable frame (19), therefore the liftable rollers (20), between their high position and their low position.
