Description

The present invention relates to a solution for washing screens used in screen printing.

To make a screen printing, screens are used which each include a frame on which is stretched a nylon fabric having very fine holes. Printing ink and also a masking protection emulsion is applied to these screens. For each new image to be printed by this method, the screen must be cleaned by removing all the inks it is carrying and removing the masking protection emulsion.

In general, these screens are cleaned in three phases. A first step is to clean the screen using a solvent that is flammable, harmful, greasy, non-biodegradable and whose odor is most often unpleasant. The screen is then rinsed under high pressure to remove residual ink and solvent. A second phase consists of applying a product diluted in water on the screen for an operation called degreasing. This eliminates the masking emulsion on the screen. After this operation, the screen is again rinsed with water under high pressure. Finally, to remove the ghost images appearing on the screen, is applied to the squeegee on the mesh of the screen a product, usually a chlorinated product. After allowing this product to react, the screen under pressure is rinsed again with water.

The cleaning of such screens is currently causing a great deal of pollution. The mixture of water, solvent, ink is difficult to recycle. In addition, the solvents used are harmful and therefore require precautions for use.

The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a new product for removing both the ink and the masking protection emulsion from a screen used for screen printing. Preferably, the product used will be biodegradable and non-harmful.

For this purpose, it proposes an aqueous cleaning composition, characterized in that it comprises from 0.5 to 25% by weight of alkyl phenol ethoxide of 0.05 to 0.75% by weight of sulfuric acid of 0, 0.5 to 2% by weight of sodium metaperiodate of 1 to 22% by weight of dialkylesters.

This composition is biodegradable and is not harmful. It allows to perform in a single operation the cleaning and unscreening of a screen, that is to say the withdrawal in one go of the inks and the masking protection emulsion. It is a stable composition that can be stored for many months. The products of the prior art intended for cleaning a screen and the products of the prior art intended for its removal are immiscible. As a result, the two cleaning and degreasing operations were carried out successively while with the product according to the invention, these two operations can be performed simultaneously on the same screen printing screen.

The dialkylesters are preferably formed from a mixture of glutarate, succinct and dialkyl adipate. Glutarate is for example a dimethyl glutarate, the succinct is for example a brief dimethyl while the adipate is for example a dimethyl adipate.

In a preferred embodiment, the dialkylesters comprise between 61 and 67% by weight of dimethyl glutarate, between 20 and 26% by weight of dimethyl succincte and between 13 and 19% by weight of dimethyl adipate. This is the composition of a product marketed by the company Du Pont de Nemours under the brand DBE.

While the solutions of the prior art used for the cleaning and the removal of screens are alkaline, the pH of the composition according to the invention is preferably between 5.5 and 6.

To present a pleasant odor, the cleaning composition according to the invention advantageously contains a scented solution.

A preferred embodiment of the composition according to the invention provides that it contains from 1 to 22% by weight of alkyl phenol ethoxide, from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of sulfuric acid, from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of sodium metaperiodate, and 1 to 20% by weight of dialkylesters.

A composition as described above can be used for cleaning and de-painting of a screen used in screen printing. The invention also relates to a kit for cleaning and disassembly of a screen used in screen printing, this kit comprising a first compartment containing an aqueous solution of alkyl phenol ethoxide and dialkyl esters and a second compartment containing an aqueous solution of metaperiodate of sodium and sulfuric acid. In any case, the invention will be better understood from the following description giving a particular example of a product according to the invention.

In a preferred embodiment, an aqueous composition is produced for cleaning a screen used in screen printing by proceeding with the following mixture - first 20% by weight of alkyl phenol ethoxide is placed, - 13% is then added. of a product marketed by the Du Pont De Nemours Company under the brand name DBE, - the whole is dissolved in 66.4% of water, - 0.25% of sulfuric acid is added, - 0.25% is added % by weight of sodium metaperiodate; finally, the whole is perfumed by adding 0.1% of a perfumed solution.

The product thus obtained makes it possible to clean a silkscreen by removing both the inks deposited on this screen and the masking emulsions therein.

While with the products of the prior art it is in most cases necessary to use a product to remove the ghost images that remain after removal of inks and masking emulsion, the use of this product is generally unnecessary after use of the aqueous cleaning solution described above. Of course, depending on the inks and emulsions used, the proportions indicated above may vary. For the alkyl phenol ethoxide, it is advantageous to use a concentration of between 0.5 and 25%, preferably between 1 and 22%. For sulfuric acid this proportion can vary from 0.05% to 0.75%, preferably 0.1 to 0.5%. For sodium metaperiodate these proportions are between 0.05 and 2%, preferably between 0.1 and 0.5%. The proportion of the product marketed by Du Pont de Nemours on the DBE brand will advantageously be between 1 and 20%.

The solution marketed under the DBE brand contains dialkylesters. The latter are in this case dimethyl glutarate, dimethyl succinate and dimethyl adipate. In this product, the concentration by weight of dimethyl glutarate is between 61 and 67%, dimethyl succinate between 20 and 26% and dimethyl adipate between 13 and 19%.

The product obtained is an aqueous composition which has the advantage of being non-flammable. Its pH is slightly acidic (between 5.5 and 6) whereas the products of the prior art used for cleaning screen printing screens are generally alkaline. Another advantage of this product is that it is harmless. It is also biodegradable according to European standards in this area. Thanks to the addition of the scented solution, which is optional, we have here a product whose smell is pleasant.

The use of this product avoids a step of washing and rinsing screens. To clean a screen, this product is then applied manually or with the help of a machine. Then rinsed with high pressure water to completely eliminate ink and emulsion residues. This accomplishes the cleaning and the disassembling of the screen in a single operation. To then remove a ghost image that may remain on the screen, applies a product that is already known in the prior art by those skilled in the art on the mesh of the screen. After the action of this product, the screen is rinsed with a jet of water under pressure. The screen is clean and ready to go into a machine for printing.

This product therefore saves a lot of time during the cleaning of a screen. This improves profitability. For the operator, the product used is not harmful, it also improves its working conditions. The quality of screen cleaning is also improved.

The cleaning product described above can be easily filtered. This can save water. In fact, after filtering, the water can be recovered and reused for rinsing under high pressure.

Another advantage, which is not the least, is that this product respects the environment because it is biodegradable.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above by way of non-limiting example; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants within the scope of the following claims.
