Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a rigging for sailboats (sail, boom, carriages and fittings) allowing
a progressive, rapid sail reduction maneuver,
(in several reefs) when the wind forces, and by a single hom ~
me on board, without leaving the cockpit.
There are three current techniques.
For the first (plate 1), which we meet on the plus
from the sailboats, the boom (2) is fixed high enough on the
mast (1) and perpendicular to it. When reducing
of sail, we hit the mainsail halyard (4), which lowers the sail on the boom to the first eye
lets (5). A team member must climb on deck to fix
Cunningham's eyelet (6) to the mast and attach the garcettes
(7) around the boom, difficult maneuver and unbalanced
te in heavy weather. Then you have to stretch the holds
reef (8). The maneuver takes five to ten minutes and
the team member must hold on to what he finds, receiving
often packets of sea. The catches of 2nd and 3rd
laughs are done the same way.
La voile ne possède pas de lattes (9).The second technique is called "furling mast" (board
2/9) (fig 4 and 5). The sail has no slats (9).
It is reduced by wrapping around a vertical axis
in the mast (10), from back to front. This practical system
when you are alone on board, has some disadvantages: it is
very expensive (over 20,000 F), it does not support
battens and the sail creases and often gets stuck in the
mast slot (11) because we reduce the headwind sail and
that’s when it does. We must then restore
canvas and reduce again, hence wasted time just at
when you have to be quick.
The third system is called retractable boom (plank
3/9). The sail wraps up and down around an axis this
times horizontal in the boom (2). The operation is done by
only one man on board, but this system is also expensive.
facilement (11). Voile pleine (Fig 6), voile en réduction
(fig 7).The sail does not support slats and it loses its hollow
since the slit is straight. It wrinkles and gets stuck
easily (11). Full sail (Fig 6), reduced sail
(fig 7).
4/9), there is a system seeking greater surface area.
this sail by fixing the boom at the foot of the mast (12).
The boom then rises obliquely up and back, making
a right angle on the chute (13) (fig 8 and 9). The advantage
is a huge gain in canvas area and the disadvantages
are the same as in the first system. To note that
if the men are alone on board, they have automa pilots
ticks that bar in their place. But they are still
forced to climb on deck to perform the maneuvers.
(FIG 8 et 9).They are sportsmen but they are not immune to a dice
balance or a blade of water. (FIG 8 and 9).
THE DEVICE ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION RESOLVES
TO SOME OF THESE DISADVANTAGES. In short, the invention consis
te in a new form of mainsail (plate 5/9), whose headrest is flexible and the edge in an arc.
closes like a fan, on a boom of new shape, equal
lying in an arc. The reefs are taken thanks to
special carriages (14), which roll on the boom. We pull them
forwards by reefs (15) and backwards
by a fall stretching end blocked by a cleat (17).
(fig 10 et 11). (fig 10 and 11).
LE DISPOSITIF SELON L'INVENTION PERMET LES MANOEU
VRES DE PRISE DE RIS RAPIDEMENT, SANS AVOIR A MONTER SUR LE
PONT.
THE DEVICE ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION ALLOWS MANOEU
RISK-TAKING GLASSES, WITHOUT HAVING TO RIDE ON
BRIDGE. The sailor wanting to take a reef relaxes the cleat
back (17) which gives slack to the fall and pulls (stretches)
the 1st or 2nd or 3rd reef taking, including the recall
is in front of him on the edge of the cockpit-deck (20). He can,
if necessary, once the maneuver has been carried out, the sail reduced and the danger of being over-stretched out, tie a small boy on the mast (21).
THE DEVICE ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION OF A CURVED BOOM
AND LOW ALLOWS TO REMEDY THE DISADVANTAGE OF A GITE
TOO STRONG, because the point of the forces exerted on the sail is lower than in high boom systems, which reduces the torque of the boat and therefore improves the stability of the boat and the comfort on board during navigation.
ACCORDING TO PARTICULAR EMBODIMENTS (THAT ILLU.S-
TRENT DRAWINGS FROM 10 TO 22):
The sail (board 6/9) consists of a flexible headrest (22) reinforced on the edges, in the center and around the halyard eyelet (23). This eyelet supports a shackle (24) to which the mainsail halyard (4) is attached. The border is in an arc, the radius of which is that of the guindtn.
Thus, chute and guinda "have the same length (fig 13). The surface is therefore that of a sector of radius R and angle.
The edge of the border is dotted with 5 eyelets (5), the one at the front attaches to the mast and the one at the rear limits the fall.
trou servira à retenir la balancine (43).The T-shaped section boom (flat above board 7/9, fig 14), has the same curvature as the edge of the sail (25) and is extended by a straight part (26) of about 20 cm , which will carry the cleat cleat (17) and the swing (19) (fig 15). In front, it will be composed of a curved finger to be hung on the mast (27). At the rear, a fin pierced with 2 or 3 holes will support the pulleys of the mainsheet (28). The attachment to the mast will be as usual by a plate fixed to the mast (20) by rivets (29) on which is a solid trigger guard (30) (fig 16). The finger is engaged
in the trigger guard. to prevent it from jumping, we engage by
2 small holes a metal U (31) closed by a sou pin
ple which deviates at one end. The front part of the
boom is made of 4 notches (41) where pulleys rotate
(40) on an axis (42) on which the sockets will slide
reef (figl7). On the tail of the boom, (fig 18), is
fixed a cleat (17), and at the end a small
hole will be used to hold the swing (43).
The cart of the invention is of particular embodiment
(plate 8/9). It is a worked rod (32) for
the port side, welded to the same on the starboard side on its par
vertical tie. At the bottom is welded a ring (33) on which we
attach the riser ends (15) to the front (fig 59)
This rod is curved at the top in the form of a ring (34) to
put a shackle (24) attached to the sail. Below,
it spreads in two parallel welded parts, then
these rods descend vertically and obliquely to surround
rer the boom rail and retain a wheel each (35) (fig 20)
Seen from above (fig 21). The cart therefore includes 4 wheels
independent.
All carts are identical to each other.
Le système en comprend quatre. The system includes four.

TO THESE DRAWINGS, the invention therefore makes it possible to envisage a new rig made from a large area sail which opens and closes like a fan thanks to its curved edge on a boom rail also curved thanks to wheeled carts.
ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING PARTICULAR MODE (Plate 9/9): each riser N01, N02, N03 is attached to the front eyelet (N033) of the carriages N01, N02, N03 (fig 22). The ends pass through the pulleys at the front of the boom rail (40) and descend vertemnt to pulleys on the bridge (45). The end then going backwards, towards the cockpit, to cleat cleats (46). The 2nd and 3rd reefs are taken in the same way. The 4th cart closes the sail completely (at the port for example).
THE COMPLETE CLOSING DEVICE OF THE SAIL
VERTICALLY (like a closed umbrella) prevents, when it rains, that water remains in the folds as on the sails with horizontal lowering (without awning). The sail is therefore less subject to wetting by rainwater than on systems with a horizontal base.

It is curved over the entire length of the edge of the sail and the same curvature as it, it ends in a straight part where is fixed a cleat cleat and where a hole for the swing is drilled.
The front is fitted with 4 small pulleys (40) allowing passage to the reefing ends. A finger hook, at the end of the rail, hangs on a fastening bridge (30), at the foot of the mast. The underside of the boom rail is formed by a larger area towards the rear (28), perforated to suspend the pulleys of the mainsheet.
