Abstract

The plant holder consists of an outer impermeable vessel (1) containing water (7) and a flotation ring (6) supporting an inner container (2) holding the soil (11) and plants (12). The inner container has a central well (5) and an open base (4) covered by an osmotic membrane in contact with the water. The central well is closed by a cover (14) and contains a battery-powered motor (8) driving a propeller (10) and actuated by a switch (16). The flotation ring can be made from a plastic material such as polystyrene or it can be inflatable. During use the plants are able to take up water through the osmotic membrane, while the inner container is turned slowly as the propeller rotates in the water.
