Abstract

The lighting and signalling assembly is in the shape of a strip that fits inside the rear window of a motor vehicle near the edges. The assembly is formed of two glass segments (16,18) shaped to fit inside the curvature of the rear window and to fit one over the other. Electroluminescent diodes (28) are fitted in chambers formed between the inner and outer glass segments. A reflector (34) covers part of the outside of the inner glass segment behind the electroluminescent diodes, directing light outward. In an alternative construction the light source may be a gas discharge lamp. The light source is chosen to emit light of the appropriate colour.
