Abstract

The rapid mounting and dismounting of a bicycle rear wheel by engaging the wheel hub axle on the rear fork is accomplished by a movement directed from the rear to the front. A movable hook allows this particular movement when the bicycle, without a chain, is equipped with a conical gearing transmission on the rear wheel. The wheel attachment is constituted by a hook (1) which is movable about a spindle (2). When it encloses the wheel hub axle (4) it is in the form of a clamping collar and is held locked by means of a pin (3) which prevents it from escaping rearwards.

Description

The present invention relates to a hook-shaped device which, by closing at the end of a rear fork leg of a bicycle, makes it possible to effectively retain the axis of the rear wheel.

This device appeared necessary after the development of a chainless bicycle built from French patent number 9I I2I56.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention
Figure I shows. seen from the left side, a classic bicycle with a chain, without its rear wheel. We have also not shown the right side of the rear fork to facilitate presentation. the direction of the arrow indicates that to mount the rear wheel, the rear wheel hub must be engaged at the end of the fork in an oblique direction, from bottom to top, and from front to back. This movement is possible for a conventional wheel fitted with a chair.

For a wheel equipped with a bevel gear, this movement is impossible, because the bevel gear mounted on the rear wheel hub, on the right side, strikes the corresponding bevel gear fixed permanently on the inside of the end of the right branch of the rear fork.

Figure 2 shows, seen from the left side, located in the same plane as in Figure I, the left branch of the rear fork of the same bike, but this time with a bevel gear transmission for the rear wheel on the right side.

The direction of the arrow indicates the best way to engage the rear wheel hub on the rear fork, in a back-to-front movement.

The drawing of the rear fork in Figure I shows that the axis of the rear wheel hub normally collects the weight of the cyclist, as a force exerted from the bottom up. The shock of obstacles encountered possibly on the road, which push the axis of the hub from front to rear, is also well absorbed thanks to the shape of the end of the fork which prevents any movement backwards.

the drawing of FIG. 2 shows on the other hand that in the event of an impact from front to rear, the axis of the hub risks escaping towards the rear
The same drawing in FIG. 2 shows, raised upwards, a hook (I) movable around an axis (2), which closes thanks to a pin (3).

The drawing of FIG. 3 shows that the closed hook takes the form of a collar which perfectly encloses the axis (4) of the hub of the rear wheel. The axle (2) and the pin (3) are strong enough to absorb shocks from the front to the rear.

If this device is patentable, having no prior art, it is only of interest if French patent No. 91 I2I56 (mechanical gearbox for bicycle without chain) knows a real success, because this device for mounting and dismounting quickly the rear wheel seems to me to be as practical as possible.
