Abstract

The invention relates to a clothes rack. According to the invention, it has a main body (1) having a means (2) for supporting it in use, the main body comprising two arms (3, 4), extension means (6, 7) arranged to s' extending from the main body such that in use a remote end of the extending means is below the main body, another support means mounted on the remote end for supporting a garment and hinge means (11, 12) placed between the ends of the extending means so that when packing the hanger, the extending means is folded around the hinge means and the far end covers the main body of the hanger.   This invention relates to a clothes rack.

  It is well known in the clothing industry, particularly in the retail sector, to have clothes hanging on clothes racks or hangers and a particularly well-known form of hanger is the fixed frame hanger which usually includes a main body having a means for supporting the hanger and two portions for the shoulders which extend outwardly in use, from each side of the support member. In a direction opposite to that in which the support means extends and extending outwardly of the main body, there are two structural members which are interconnected by another structural member at their ends remote from the

main body.

  Such hangers are ideal for hanging clothes such as the jacket of a pajamas, the pants of the pajamas being suspended on the other transverse element so that it can be presented at the same time as the jacket. However, the disadvantage of such a hanger is that when a customer buys for example the pajamas, the seller must fold the portion of pants on the jacket portion and the entire garment, with the hanger, must be placed inside a very large bag, by the seller. The main disadvantages of this construction are first and foremost the price of providing bags large enough to cover the entire hanger and clothing purchased, then the storage of hangers because they take up a lot of space and thirdly the transport of hangers from manufacturers. o, again, considerations of space must be taken into account, because there is a severe limit on the number of hangers that can be packed in a container, for example, a cardboard box of a size

  facilitating its manual handling.

  The object of the present invention is to provide a clothes rack which makes it possible to substantially eliminate the

disadvantages above.

  According to the present invention, there is provided a carrier

Referring more particularly to Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings, they show a clothes rack having a main body 1 comprising a support 2 for the hanger in the form of a hook of standard configuration. The main body 1 has two arms 3, 4 which extend in opposite directions, outwards, in use as shown in the drawings, from a central portion 5 of the

main body.

  In the region of the interconnection between the central portion 5 and the innermost ends of the arms 3, 4 are connected two structural elements 6, 7 which extend downwards in FIGS. 1 and 2 to a bar arcuate transverse 8 which itself extends outwardly, on each side of the structural elements 6, 7 for

  The structural elements 6, 7 are provided about a quarter to one third of their length, the closest to the main body 1, a portion of reduced thickness 11, 12

  In use, the hanger will, for example, be used to present pajamas suitable for a young child.   Therefore, the longitudinal length of the hanger between the hook and the cross bar 8 is substantially reduced by half and this is advantageous in that it allows the seller to place the clothes hanger and clothing purchased by the customer in a bag which has to about half the size of the bag that would otherwise be needed for use with this hanger, which reduces

  substantially the packing prices for the seller.

  Savings can also be made by the manufacturer of such clothes racks according to the present invention because by using the same techniques, by folding the hanger, it is possible to pack a larger number of these hangers in a given space, for example, in a cardboard box sized for easy manual handling. This then reduces the shipping cost for the manufacturer and this subsequently allows the seller to store the hangers in a smaller space than would be

otherwise necessary.

  The hanger described above, apart from the hook 2, is conveniently a one-piece plastic molding in which the hook is molded at the time of manufacture of the hanger and the hinges 11, 12 are of a reduced thickness to allow the flexion of the arms 6 and 7 to allow the portions 13, 14 of the bottom of the structural elements 7, 6,

  respectively, to be parallel to the main body 1. In another form of the invention, the hinges may be independent and attached to the arms 6, 7. Furthermore, the clamps 9, 10 may be of any shape or form appropriate to the particular use for which the hanger is intended taking into account the particular style or

  form of the garment that will have to be placed on the hanger.

  The hook 2 may be of a plastic material and be integrally molded with the hanger as a unitary molded hanger. Alternatively, the hook may be a hook in

  metal molded in position during the molding of the hanger.

  In addition, the shape of the main body may vary from that shown in the drawings and may include an embodiment in which there is only one arm 3 and an extension arm 7 with a crossbar suitable for the end of the arm 7 which is remote from the main body 1, which will operate in the same manner as described for the

  clothes rack shown in Figures 1 and 2.

  Conveniently, the arms 3, 4 of the hanger may be provided with hooks / clips placed below 15, 16, respectively, on which a skirt may be suspended,

Claims (7)
