Abstract

A garment hanger is formed in two separate parts 23,24 intended to fit the upper and lower parts of a garment 30. The garment can be folded by bringing the two half-hangers together and securing them overlapped by means of cooperating semicircular slits (Figs 1,8).

Description

GARMENT HOLDER This invention relates to a garment holder.
If a garment manufacturer wishes to package items such as shirts and blouses he has to use a system which involves folding the garment. This often results in a badly creased garment when the purchaser removes the packaging. Dry cleaners, launderers, and pressing services return finished garments to the customer either on hangers or folded and encased in a cover of some kind. If presented on hangers, the length of the garment is inconvenient for the customer to carry. If folded, creases are re-introduced into the garment. Using this packaging method the garment is conveniently folded without the introduction of unwanted creases. A cover of some kind may then be placed over the garment depending upon the application. The garment can then be carried, hung on a garment rail or stored flat, and when the packaging is removed it is ready for wear without the need for re-pressing.
According to the present invention there is a garment halder comprising two half hangers which can be secured together thereby folding and holding the garment firmly and without creasing.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig 5 shows one of the half hangers (16) having a semicircular slit (18) and two straight slits (17) cut into it.
Figs 1 & Show that each half hanger may consist of a handle section (12) and a shoulder section (14) fitted together. This adds strength to the middle section and different sized shoulder sections can then be used depending on the size of the garment being packaged.
Fig 3 One of the half hangers (23) is placed inside the shoulders of the garment (30), the other (24 > is attached to the bottom of the garment (30).
Fig 8 shows how the two handles (12) of the half hangers are secured by inserting one semi-circular slit into the other forming a locking mechanism (15).
Fig 4 shows the half hangers (23 & 24) secured together by means of the locking mechanism (15), the garment being soft folded (50) and held firm between the two half hangers.
Figs 6/7 shows one example of a cover (45).
One of the half hangers (23) is placed inside the shoulders of the garment (30). The front of the garment may now be fastened if necessary.
Each sleeve is draped across and down the length of the garment as in Fig 3. The second half hanger (24) is placed at the bottom of the garment and attached to it, and in the case of long sleeved garments, to the cuffs.
This is achieved by using clips, slits (17, Fig 5) cut in the half hangers.
or by some other means. The two half hangers are then brought together as in fig 4. loose folding the garment with the front either on the inside or on the outside. The half hangers are now secured together using the locking mechanism (15), holding the garment firm. A cover may be placed over the garment if required (Figs 6 & 7)

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A garment holder comprising two half hangers which can be secured together thereby folding and holding the garment.
  2. 2. A garment holder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein there are handed, semi circular slits which when inserted one in the other, secure the two half hangers together.
  3. 3. A garment holder as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 wherein slits are cut in the half hangers which can be used to secure the sleeves or cuffs of the garment.
  4. 4. A garment holder substantially as described herein with respect to Figs 1 - 8 of the accompanying drawing.
    4. A garment holder as claimed in Claims 2 or 3 wherein the half hangers are each in two parts, comprising a handle section and a shoulder section.
    5. A garment holder substantially as described herein with respect to Figs 1 - 8 of the accompanying drawing.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS 1. A garment holder comprising two half hangers wherein are handed semicircular slits which when inserted one inside the other secure the half hangers together thereby soft folding the garment and holding it firmly between the two half hangers, thereby reducing any tendency to lateral movement of the garment on the hanger.
    2. A garment holder as in Claim 1 wherein slits are cut in the half hangers which can be used to secure the sleeves or cuffs of the garment.
    3. A garment holder as in Claims 1 and 2 wherein the half hangers are each in two parts, comprising a handle section and a shoulder section.
