Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus intended for collecting floating bodies, objects, waste, debris, hydrocarbons or other substances drifting on the surface of the water. The principle of this apparatus, named MARINE ANTIPOLLUTION SURFACE COLLECTOR is actuated by a pressurised air or water spray boom which creates a surface current pointing towards a receiver compartment. It is the technical application of a novel principle of cleaning the surface of the water with a floating machine. The model described is drawn in Figure II. It is composed of two floats (5), a receiver compartment (4) and an orientable spray boom (1). Finally, it also comprises a movable container.

Description

The present invention relates to an apparatus intended for the collection of floating bodies, objects, waste, littering hydrocarbons or other substances drifting on the surface of water. Its field of application concerns all water bodies liable to be polluted. The sea, lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, basins, swimming pools and. especially the port areas where pollution tends to accumulate. Many. studies and patents have been filed to remedy this drawback, in particular those whose publication references appear under the
N.2603881, N.2541702, N.2249803. But it does not seem that these works have an effective application in the field. Even today, waste collection from the surface of the water is still done using landing nets from a quay or boat. It is long and arduous work. Offshore, we use ships fitted with a kind of large mechanical landing net which plows the surface and which we call "Pelicans". This process is very useful but of limited effectiveness because of the size of such a machine and because it is obliged to always move forward in a clear space and without obstacles. It cannot treat areas where pollution tends to pile up on its own, especially places where water comes into contact with the shore, yeahs inside a port, the mouths of canals, rivers and other limited spaces.

The present invention called "SURFACE COLLECTOR
MARINE ANTI-POLLUTION "has the advantage of attracting floating objects and picking them up. The machine can therefore act either by moving towards the goal to be reached, or by staying posted in a place where pollution tends to accumulate .

The model proposed for the present description is drawn in FIG. II. It consists of two floats (5), a half-submerged receiver-compartment (4) and an adjustable ramp (1). Finally it also includes a mobile container. (see figure III)
The method developed by the present invention consists of a raking of the water surface. This raking is caused and activated by a ramp (1) with water or air under high pressure. This ramp (1) is provided with regularly spaced nozzles (2) which forcefully project water or air, which has the effect of creating a large current in the opening of the collector. This artificial surface current (3) drives the floating bodies towards the bottom of the receiving compartment (4). This current is similar to that of a waterfall or that of a strong wind blast. It forms on the surface of the water, at the point aimed by the sprinklers (2), a depression of the water which favors the call and the attraction of objects located in a perimeter close to the collector.

The form chosen for the experimentation of this patent is that of a catamaran described in Figure II. On either side of the two floats (5) there is a receptacle compartment (4) which is integral with the floats. This half-submerged compartment is on one side closed and the other wide open, so that it can channel the surface current (3). The injection ramp (1) described above is located between the two floats (5) which it connects to the end of the open part of the machine. Inside the receiving compartment (4) is placed a mobile container (fig. III) which sieves the water and which makes it possible to recover the pollution and place it in a bag to store it as is usually done for household waste.

To allow independent work, the collector will be posted in a fixed place where pollution is localized. We can also use it in a mobile way by equipping it with an electric motor actuated by a remote control system which allows the operator to stay dry while the machine penetrates into every corner of a body of water, in places where it would be impossible to access by any other means. For example, going up a river cluttered with obstacles or between a quay and parked ships. This application concerns small devices.

In the event of serious pollution, risk of an oil spill, risk of dispersing off a harmful substance, the SURFACE COLLECTOR designed on a large scale will be able to face the high seas. The proposed catamaran type model is provided with two large floats which guarantee it great stability. Its shape allows it to be towed easily. The collector will also be able to work with a tug or any motor ship (fig. IV). It will then be possible to collect significant masses of pollution, collect and treat them in an adequate manner. (pumping or chemical treatment)
The present invention will be very useful for the establishment of a punctual water cleaning service as well as the creation of rapid and effective assistance against marine pollution. This invention will protect the biological balance of water bodies. Designed as a remote-controlled model, in the form of an ecological toy, the SURFACE COLLECTOR can be used, in the hands of young people and schoolchildren, for education and respect for nature.

The device designed in the present description consists of two floats and is similar to a catamaran (fig II) but such a device can easily be designed either in monohull version, or in trimaran version (fig I) or under other assembled and floating shapes highlighting the same raking principle of the water surface.
