Abstract

Process for making a backing paper nonadhesive. The process according to the invention is noteworthy in that it consists in: a) coating the backing paper (P) at least partly with a glazing and filling product (L); b) drying the support thus coated; c) coating the coated and dried support with a nonadhesive substance (S). According to an alternative form the said process consists in treating only some regions of the backing paper and/or treating differently at least two regions of the backing paper (P) by varying the quantities of the glazing product and/or of the nonadhesive substance. The invention also relates to the backing papers thus treated and all their applications, especially for producing an insurance certificate provided with a removable certificate and an adhesively bonded transparent label.

Description

 Method for rendering a paper support non-stick, paper support thus obtained and its applications.

 The invention relates to a method for rendering a paper support non-stick, or at least for reducing its adhesion capacities to adhesive products, as well as the paper supports obtained according to the process regardless of their applications.

 The invention is particularly intended as a particular application, to make a certificate of insurance for vehicle, with detachable certificate.

 To make a paper support more or less non-stick, in order for example to constitute a protective element for a product provided with an adhesive coating or to make a reportable protective element by bonding, it is known to use silicone substances.

 However, the difficulties encountered in crosslinking the silicone make it necessary to deposit on the paper support, only very small quantities by weight, and therefore a small thickness.

 In addition to absorption problems, the roughness (physical parameter) of the surface of a conventional sheet of paper is generally much greater than the thickness of the silicone layer mentioned above, so that such a direct coating would only allow '' a very small reduction in its adhesion capacities (protrusion of the paper outside the silicone coating).

 This is why it appeared necessary to treat the paper support before depositing the silicone substance.

 The known technique used until now consists of calendering, that is to say laminating, the sheet of paper so as to obtain a surface condition sufficient to receive the silicone substance, thanks to the deformation undergone by the paper which is at least partially preserved.

 However, it is also known that calendering modifies the structure of the paper and therefore its mechanical and optical characteristics (rigidity, opacity, etc.).

 For example, calendering in fact removes, at least in part, the opacity of the paper which then becomes transparent. This is also the technique used to make tracing paper, and this can be a drawback for certain applications.

 In addition, the principle of calendering obliges to treat the entire width and the entire length of the paper, in the same way and this necessarily, front and back. It is therefore not possible to calender the paper support by area, which is another drawback for specific applications, for example if it is desired to make prints on certain parts of said support, in particular because of the smoothing of the paper.

 In addition, calendering machines are heavy and belong to paper processing techniques and not to printing techniques.

 One of the merits of the invention consists in wanting to solve the problem quite differently and to achieve it by unusual means.

The invention proposes a method for rendering a paper support non-stick, which is remarkable in that it consists in:
a) coat the paper support at least in part with a pro
smoothing and capping product;
b) drying the support thus coated;
c) coating the coated and dried support with an anti-aging substance
adhesive.

 Advantageously and in a manner known per se, the non-stick substance is a silicone substance.

 The inventor sought and found smoothing products which are both liquid enough to compensate for the roughness of the paper support, but viscous enough not to be absorbed by said support.

 The product must also shield the silicone substance while remaining compatible.

 The invention recommends as a smoothing and capping product a varnish drying by ultraviolet radiation.

 The invention proposes an embodiment of the method which is entirely advantageous for certain applications. This embodiment is remarkable in that it consists in treating only certain areas of the paper support. In particular, it consists in treating at least two areas of the paper medium differently by varying the amounts of the smoothing product and / or of the non-stick substance.

 Advantageously in this case, the variations in the quantities of product and substance from one zone to another are obtained by different numbers of coating.

 It is understood that it is therefore possible to prepare only certain parts of the sheet and this possibly in a modulated manner.

 This selectivity and this modulation are impossible with the known calendering process, given the small quantities of silicone to be deposited ("all or nothing" siliconization) on the entire treated surface.

 One of the very big advantages of the invention appears when according to one embodiment, the smoothing product and the non-stick substance, are applied to the paper support by the techniques known from the printing press and in particular in offset at least for the smoothing product, so that it is easy to adjust the deposited weight.

 It is clear, as already said, that the invention of course also relates to the supports treated according to the aforementioned method, supports whose mechanical and optical characteristics and printing capacities are preserved.

 One of the quite interesting applications of the method according to the invention relates to an insurance certificate for a vehicle, with a detachable certificate.

 In order to facilitate controls, certain regulations oblige the owner of a vehicle to affix a visible certificate on it proving that he is up to date with his insurance company vis-à-vis said vehicle.

 The certificate mentions in particular a period of validity, a vehicle identification number and, generally, a contract number.

 The certificate attached to the vehicle obviously does not exempt the holder from also having a certificate.

 The certificate includes, among other things, the indications of the certificate and the insurance companies generally publish the two documents at the same time and generally continuously for several holders, the certificate being only a detachable part of a sheet constituting at the same time attestation and certificate.

 In the case of an automobile, the certificate is affixed to its windshield, the printed back being applied to the interior face of said windshield in order to be visible from the outside. In general, this application can be extended to any vehicle fitted with a windshield, including therefore boats, etc.

 For a motorcycle, governed by the same rules, the certificate is applied to the front fender.

 When it comes to equipping only cars, many systems are imaginable and acceptable, since the certificate is protected by the windshield but it is not the same when it comes to a motorcycle or when you want a unique type of certificate that can be used as appropriate, either for an automobile or for a motorcycle.

 A known system consists in providing an adhesive and transparent pocket to stick on the windshield of the automobile or the mudguard of the motorcycle in which it suffices to slip the certificate while making visible the printed back (certain pockets of which only one side is transparent, are then intended for a single type of vehicle).

 Such a system is expensive, especially since unless a new insured and / or a new vehicle is distinguished from an old one, a new pocket is often provided for each certificate relating to a contractual period. In addition, for a motorcycle, the pouch is not really protective in particular against theft, but also against damage due to bad weather since it is necessarily open on one side.

 This is why we have imagined other systems such as for example that described in French patent 2593120. In this system, a transparent label is stuck on the back of a component of the certificate, while it presents a detachable part on which the back of the certificate is fixed, which is surrounded on at least three sides of its front, with a removable protective film, the back of the certificate being provided with a coating reducing adhesion. To use such a system, after various cuts, the protective film is removed and this exposed area is glued to the windshield of the automobile or to the mudguard of the motorcycle, after having, in the latter case, turned over the certificate.

However, such a system, which is difficult to manufacture, also presents excess thicknesses and annoying differences in rigidity.

 The method according to the invention makes it possible to provide an interesting solution by proposing an attestation of the aforementioned type in the form of a sheet provided with a detachable certificate, the back of which is provided with a transparent label having one side, coated with a adhesive substance, which is stuck on said certificate and on a marginal zone which protrudes peripherally from said certificate, while means are provided to make at least partially non-stick at least part of the marginal zone, but which is remarkable in that that the non-stickiness of at least the marginal zone is obtained by using the method according to the invention, the certificate being further made detachable from said sheet by a precut or a break line formed at its periphery.

 For a certificate in which the back of the certificate is also made at least a little non-stick in order to facilitate its reversal, the invention proposes a certificate which is remarkable in that the adhesion between the label and the back of the certificate is made less stronger than on said marginal zone, using the method according to the invention in its embodiment with different treatments according to the zones, so as to be able to peel off and easily return as necessary said certificate so that the latter can be applied on the adhesive label by its front, while retaining a stronger adhesion of the marginal zone of the transparent label on the sheet.

 It is then possible to peel off the label to apply it directly to the windshield of an automobile or, after turning the certificate over, to the mudguard of a motorcycle.

 The invention makes it possible to have a good adhesion of the label on the back of the sheet so that it can pass over the various shaping stations and in particular in the printer and a weak adhesion of the certificate for its reversal.

 The new laser type printers raise the temperature and make it necessary to have an even greater adhesion of the label, which is entirely contradictory with the aim sought for the certificate. The invention solves this problem.

 In particular, it is the amount of smoothing product that is varied, for example by a double coating on the back of the certificate.

 Preferably according to a particular mode, the total surface of the zone of the sheet which is made non-stick, is larger than that of the label itself so that said zone projects beyond the label.

The invention will be clearly understood and other particularities will appear on reading the description which follows of an application of the method according to the invention and which refers to the appended drawings in which:

 In FIG. 1, the processing of a paper P is schematically shown according to the conventional calendering method (on the right in the drawing) or according to the invention (on the left).

 These are schematic drawings and the proportions are arbitrary.

A blank sheet of paper looks much like
P in Figure 1, that is to say that it has a fairly high roughness on its front and on its back.

Conventionally, the sheet of paper can be calendered
P, to obtain a PC calendered sheet. Then, from this calendered sheet, a coating of silicone S, of a thickness for example of the order of 2 microns, makes it possible to obtain a conventional silicone paper.

 On the contrary, according to the invention, the sheet of paper P is first coated with a product L for smoothing and / or plugging the pores, of the varnish type drying by ultraviolet radiation.

 After drying, the coated paper thus obtained is coated with silicone S so as to obtain a product whose reduction in its adhesion capacities to adhesive products, hereinafter referred to as non-stickiness, is comparable here to that of calendered silicone paper, but whose the characteristics of the paper are not altered.

 In FIG. 2, a sheet of paper P 'is shown having been treated differently according to the zones Z1 and Z2.

 In the zone Z1, a quantity of smoothing product L1 greater than the quantity of smoothing product L2 deposited in the zone Z2 has been deposited (either by several coatings, or by coatings which vary according to the zones). In offset technique, it suffices, for example, to play on the deposition screen.

 We then understand why zone Z1 will offer better non-stick than zone Z2.

 Here, the silicone layer S is uniform. If we can imagine playing on the quantity of silicone, it can only be very weakly for the reasons indicated above.

 The invention can relate to a very large number of applications, with modulation of non-sticking and / or treatment of particular areas only, or even complete and uniform treatment for making, for example, a support for adhesive labels, etc.

 We will now describe a particular application, but it is clear that this is only a non-limiting example.

 FIGS. 3 and 4 respectively show the front 1a and the back 1b of a sheet 1.

 Sheet 1 has on its back the (figure 3) a printed part constituting an insurance certificate with the information necessary for this purpose: validity dates, vehicle and holder identification, etc.

 In an appropriate area of sheet 1, an insurance certificate 2 (figures 3 to 6) is detachably arranged by means of a precut or breaking line 3 (figures 3 and 4).

 Certificate 2 has a front 2a (Figure 3 to 6) and a back 2b (Figures 4 to 6).

 The front 2a of the certificate contains printed indications which are moreover common with the attestation part.

 As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the sheet 1 further comprises perforated side bands 4 and 4 ', called "carol" bands, for training in a printer intended to carry the inscriptions which have been discussed above. It is understood that several attestations and certificates can thus be printed continuously, two successive attestations for two distinct holders then being separated by a breaking line.

 On the back lb of the sheet, a transparent label 5 is stuck.

 Label 5 has on its own back an adhesive coating shown diagrammatically in the drawings by dots.

To avoid the label 5 from adhering too much to the sheet 1, since the latter must be peeled off, as will be explained below, the back lb of the sheet is treated according to the invention, as described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, as follows:
a) coating said sheet on a zone 6 represented by oblique hatching in FIG. 4, with a smoothing and capping product such as a varnish drying by ultraviolet radiation;
a ') the area which corresponds to the back 2b of the certificate 2 is again coated with the same product (and possibly after drying of the first coating), this second layer being represented by a double hatching in FIG. 4;
b) the assembly thus coated is dried;
c) zone 6 is again coated, but this time with a silicone substance.

 Instead of a double coating, a larger quantity of product can be directly deposited in the zone concerned (double hatching in FIG. 4).

 After drying, it suffices to stick the transparent label on the zone 6, the surface of which is larger than that of said label 5.

 The product thus treated can easily pass through a printer to personalize the front of each certificate and the front 2a of each certificate.

 The use is simple to understand. I1 suffices for the user to peel off the label 5 (FIG. 4) with the certificate 2 cut along the line 3.

 The silicone substance mentioned above allows takeoff.

 A sticker (label plus certificate) is thus obtained, which is in the form of FIG. 5.

 For a vehicle fitted with a windshield, it suffices to stick the label 5 on it, making the front 2a of the certificate 2 appear by transparency of the windshield (FIG. 5).

 On the contrary, for a motorcycle, the certificate 2 is returned to the label which then appears as in FIG. 6, the front 2a being applied to the adhesive face of said label 5. It is then understood that bonding of the face adhesive will make visible said front 2a by transparency of the label.

 The use of the method according to the invention here makes it possible to modulate the adhesion of the label 5 and of the certificate 2.

 It is indeed necessary sufficient adhesion of the label on the sheet 1 for the passage through a printer (especially a printer with heat release, such as a laser printer for example) and naturally on the vehicle.

 On the other hand, you must be able, if necessary, to easily return (Figure 6) certificate 2.

 This is precisely surprisingly obtained by the double selective coatings described above (zone 6 and zone of the certificate).

 However, it is clear that the invention also relates to the simple preparation of the sheet, even without modulation of adhesion, avoiding the use of an additional silicone protective paper.

Claims (12)

RRYENDICATIONS  1) Method for rendering a paper support (P) non-stick, characterized in that it consists in:  a) coat the paper support (P) at least in part with a  smoothing and capping product (L);  b) drying the support thus coated;  c) coating the coated and dried support with an anti-aging substance  adhesive (S).  2) Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the non-stick substance (S) is a silicone substance.  3) Method according to one of claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the smoothing and capping product (L) is a varnish drying by ultraviolet radiation.  4) Method according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that it consists in treating only certain areas of the paper support (P).  5) Method according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that it consists in treating at least two areas differently (Z1, Z2) of the paper support (P ') by varying the amounts of the smoothing product (L1, L2) and / or of the non-stick substance.  6) Method according to claim 5, characterized in that the variations in the quantities of product and substance from one zone to another are obtained by different numbers of coating.  7) Method according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the smoothing product (L) and the non-stick substance (S) are applied to the paper support (P) by techniques known from the printing press.  8) Method according to claim 7, characterized in that at least the smoothing product (L) is deposited by the offset technique.  9) Paper support provided with zones with reduced adhesion to adhesive products, characterized in that it is treated according to the method of claims 1 to 8.  10) Paper support constituting an insurance certificate in the form of a sheet (1) provided with a detachable certificate (2), the back (lb) of which is provided with a transparent label (5) having one side, coated of an adhesive substance, which is stuck on said certificate (2) and on a marginal zone which extends peripherally from said certificate, while means are provided to make at least partly non-stick, at least part of the marginal zone, attestation characterized in that the non-stickiness of at least the marginal zone is obtained by using the method according to one of claims 1 to 4, the certificate being further made detachable from said sheet by a precut or a break line formed at its periphery.  11) Paper support constituting an insurance certificate according to claim 10, wherein the back of the certificate is also made at least a little non-stick, characterized in that the adhesion between the label and the back of the certificate is made less strong that on said marginal zone, using the method according to one of claims 5 to 8, so that it can easily peel off and return as necessary said certificate (2) so that the latter can be applied to the label adhesive (5) by its front (2a), while retaining a stronger adhesion of the marginal zone of one transparent label on the sheet.  12) Paper support constituting an insurance certificate according to one of claims 10 and 11, characterized in that the total area of the area (6) of the sheet (1) which is made non-stick, is larger than that of the 'label (5) itself so that said area extends beyond the label.
