Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a standing pocket made from a flexible film, and a method of making this pocket.
We know how to make standing pockets from a flexible film welded on itself. The known methods include the steps of folding a strip of flexible film edge to edge, making a longitudinal weld to associate the edges together and thus forming a tubular conduit, simultaneously forming a bellows on a side opposite to the longitudinal weld, making a first transverse weld, pour a product to be conditioned in the duct, make a second transverse weld spaced from the first weld and cut the film along the second transverse weld. The pocket thus obtained stands upright when it is placed on the side of the bellows due to the spacing of the bellows under the pressure of the product contained in the pocket. In such a method, the transverse welds extend over the bellows and it is therefore necessary to keep the bellows in the folded position during the filling of the bag and the realization of the second transverse weld. The surface of film which is used to form the folds of the bellows must therefore be provided in addition to the surface of film which is necessary to delimit the volume suitable for receiving the desired quantity of product to be packaged. This means that in order to produce the bag, a quantity of film is used which is greater than the quantity necessary to contain the volume of packaged product.
Document GB-A-930 811 also discloses a method for producing a standing pocket consisting of carrying out a longitudinal weld along the edges of a strip of flexible film folded back on itself, carrying out a first transverse weld at straddling the longitudinal weld, pour a product to be packaged into the duct, make a second transverse weld also straddling the longitudinal weld then make welds perpendicular to one of the transverse welds at the two ends of the latter. The transverse weld and the two welds which are perpendicular to it, thus form an H which serves as a base for the standing pocket.
However, the transverse weld forms an additional thickness on the bottom of the pocket so that the latter is not very stable when it is placed on a flat surface. In addition, the longitudinal weld then extends vertically in the middle of one of the faces of the pocket so that this face is ill-suited to receiving impressions of presentation of the product.
According to the invention, there is provided a standing pocket made from a flexible film welded onto itself and comprising an upper weld, two lateral welds extending perpendicular to the upper weld from the ends thereof, and two lower welds extending astride the lateral welds at one end thereof opposite the upper weld.
Thus, there are welds on two sides of the pocket forming an inverted T-structure which gives the pocket a hold without making any extra thickness on the bottom of the pocket so that the latter is very stable when it is placed on a flat surface. In addition, the entire film forming the pocket is used to delimit the internal volume during the packaging of the product so that the quantity of film used for the dose of product to be conditioned is minimized. In addition, the main faces of the pocket are completely smooth so that they can be printed with inscriptions which remain clearly visible after the production of the pocket.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description of the method for producing the bag according to the invention in relation to the attached figures among which
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic illustration of the steps of the method for producing the bag,
- Figure 2 is a perspective view of the pocket according to the invention.
With reference to FIG. 1, the method for producing the upright pocket according to the invention comprises the steps of folding a strip of flexible film 1 edge to edge and welding the edges together according to a longitudinal weld 2 to form a tubular conduit , make a first transverse weld 3 perpendicular to the longitudinal weld 2 to close the tubular duct at one end, pour a product to be conditioned by means of a filling rod 10 into the duct, make a second transverse weld 4 spaced from the first transverse weld 3, cut the flexible film along the transverse weld to separate a dose, arrange the dose on a support 5 with the transverse welds 3 and 4 arranged laterally to delimit horns 6 with the support 5, and make welds 9 straddling the welds 3 and 4 perpendicular thereto, for example by means of valves 7 mounted to pivot on the supp ort 5 and comprising welding electrodes 8. The horns delimited by the welds 9 are preferably cut along the welds 9 as illustrated in FIG. 2 but it is also possible to fold them up and fix them under the dose or on the side of it.
The devices for carrying out the longitudinal weld and the transverse welds are well known and it is therefore not necessary to describe them in detail. In particular, the second transverse weld 4 of a dose and the cutting along this weld are generally carried out simultaneously with the production of a first transverse weld 3 of the following dose.
The standing pocket thus produced and illustrated in FIG. 2 therefore comprises an upper weld 2, two lateral welds 3 and 4 extending perpendicular to the upper weld 2 from the ends thereof, and two lower welds 9 s' extending astride the lateral welds 3 and 4 at the end thereof opposite the upper weld. It will be noted that the side of the tubular conduit opposite the weld 2 has not undergone any alteration during the production of the pocket so that it retains its flexibility and adapts perfectly to the surface on which it is placed, thus giving pocket according to the invention very high stability.
