Abstract

Description

CHILD PASSENGER SEAT DEVICE,
INTEGRATED INTO THE MAIN SEAT COMPONENT
OF MOTOR VEHICLE
The invention relates to a seat device for a child passenger, integrated into the component of a main seat of a motor vehicle suitable more particularly for children of age less than around 3 years.

The invention relates more particularly to a seat device formed by a cushion and by a backrest which can be brought into the position of use by pivoting about a transverse axis and which is constituted by elements of the main seat which are integrated in position not to use said main seat to form an element thereof.

The publication FR-A-2,382,354 describes a child passenger seat constituted by a shell containing a polyurethane foam lining. To be used, this seat must be removed from the seat and the back of the main seat. The latter therefore requires a special structure and recesses provided in the backrest and in the seat.

Research on the safety of child passengers has also shown that children are better protected when seated in the opposite direction to the direction of travel.

His head and back are indeed supported against the seat back during the brutal decelerations of the vehicle.

Starting from the aforementioned state of the art, the subject of the invention is a seat device consisting of at least one support element for the child passenger, brought into the erected position of use following the pivoting of an element of the main seat against which said passenger will rest.

According to the invention, the proposed seat device has an upward-facing retaining wall, the base of which is extended by a seat surface limited longitudinally towards the rear by an erected passenger support element.

The device thus produced advantageously uses the padded retaining wall of the back of the main seat.

According to a first embodiment of the invention, the support element is constituted by a deployed armrest element which pivots about a transverse axis for which the upper face of the armrest element can come to bear on a seat back longitudinally offset from the main seat, while the underside of said armrest element carries the bearing surface of the child passenger.

According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, the support element for the child passenger is made in the shell of a pivoting part of the cushion of the main seat.

According to another characteristic of the device, all of the bearing surfaces of the child passenger carry inflatable pockets, the selective inflation of which ensures the timing and correct distribution of the contact pressures over the passenger's body segments.

In the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the main seat is constituted by a rear seat 10 of the vehicle, not shown, constituted by a seat II and by a backrest 12.

In this embodiment, the middle part of the seat is occupied by a retractable armrest 13 in contact with a retaining wall oriented upwards and which can occupy two positions of use and storage symbolized by the arrows "a" and " b "in Figure 2.

The armrest 13 is pivotally mounted about a transverse axis 15 secured to the base of the backrest 12 and is constituted by a support element 16 articulated around a transverse axis 17 located at the front end of the armrest 13.

As shown in FIGS. 1-3-4, the support element 16 limits a seat surface towards the rear and can be deployed upwards so that its upper face 18 comes to bear on the backrest a seat 19 longitudinally offset from the main seat 10. The underside 20 of the element 16 carries a bearing surface so as to be able to accommodate a child passenger.

The support element 16 is superimposable on a support element 21, itself pivoting at the base of the backrest around the axis 15, in order to allow the armrest to occupy a general storage position in the file 12 in the absence of a child passenger.

The angular position of the support element 16 relative to the support element 21 is adjusted by a link 22, one end of which is articulated on the element 16 and the other end of which carries a stud 23 immobilized in a lateral slide 24 carried by a shell 25 for receiving the seat surface of the passenger passenger support padding.

The upholstery of the seat device is constituted as shown in FIG. 4 by a number of inflatable bags 26 arranged in the shell 25 and in contact with the face 20.

The use of inflatable pockets thus makes it possible to adapt the seat device more precisely to the age and size of the passenger. In addition, an additional retaining device constituted by a safety strap prevents involuntary movements of the child passenger during transport and eliminates the risk of ejection or projection in the event of accidents.

FIG. 6 describes an alternative embodiment of the device according to which a support element 30 of the seat 11 is pivotally mounted around the transverse axis 27 carried by the base of the seat (fig. 5) or by an element of floor 28 of the vehicle. The pivoting element of the seat 11 thus constitutes the support element for the child passenger in the erected position together with the inflatable pockets such as 26.

In the embodiments of the device, an additional retaining strap 31 can be used in order to improve the contact of the child passenger with the support surface with inflatable pockets 26.

In the above example, all the inflatable bags can be stored in the deflated state under the element 30 of the seat and these can be inflated simultaneously or selectively depending on the inflatable structure made up in order to ensure a setting of the passenger and a correct distribution of the contact pressures on the body segments thereof.

According to the example shown in Figure 9, the element 30 of the seat can be unhooked from the axis 27 to allow a translation thereof and its attachment before lifting, at a transverse axis 35 carried by the rear part of the element 30.

This constructive measure makes it possible to significantly reduce the number of pockets 26 and to provide support for the child passenger in contact with the upholstery of the element 30 of the seat as a result of tilting upwards of the element 30 carried out at the level of the axis 35 immobilized in an intermediate longitudinal position 36 in contact with the floor 28.
