Les dispositifs d'aménagement classiques sont généralement constitués de deux sièges respectivement conducteur et passager, montés chacun sur un socle solidaire du plancher du véhicule. Derrière chaque siège est de plus disposée une structure rigide de protection formant séparation entre la partie arrière et l'habitacle du véhicule, de sorte d'isoler physiquement le conducteur et le passager des pièces transportées dans la partie arrière ou utilitaire du véhicule.
