Abstract

The wall 7 of the container comprises a recess 8 having a sloping lower part 9 which interacts with a corresponding sloping part 23 of the lid, for interlocking. A rib 11 is located above this recess and has a plane face 12 which serves as a bearing surface for a tool for opening, and the wall ends with a rolled portion 13 which interacts, in the closed configuration, with a seal 26 held partly by the rolled portion 25 of the lid.

Description

 The present invention relates to a container or box with full opening of the so-called "Pot-truck" type.

 Such containers are used in particular for packaging products such as paint, glue, varnish, sealant, wax, etc.

These containers or boxes are asked for a certain number of qualities, sometimes contradictory: they must first of all be inexpensive, therefore of easy manufacture and involving the minimum of operations. They must also allow an easy closure by simple operation of pressure, of the "punch" type. They must also provide a good seal in the closed state.
They must also be easy to open by means of an instrument that is readily available, such as a screwdriver or a coin, and they must also allow easy recapping after use. On the other hand for their implementation on automatic filling machines, the jars must be able to fit into each other in an empty state and the lids must also be able to stack on top of each other before placing These stacking operations must not cause any risk of jamming.

The standard truck pots are in four parts: a circular bottom, a frustoconical or cylindrical body, secured to the bottom, a collar fixed to the body at its upper part, and a cover provided for closing the opening of the collar. The manufacture of such a box involves a large number of crimping operations, stapling, rolling, etc. furthermore the ob, tension of the ring, in the form of a ring, is expensive because a very small part of the surface of the initial blank is used. The object of the present invention is to provide a container which is devoid of a collar, but which is of simpler manufacture and of performance at least equal to that obtained with the device of the patent which has just been indicated.

The present invention will be described in more detail below using practical examples given without limitation and illustrated by the drawings.

 Figure 1 shows a pot whose body 1 is crimped at its lower part on a circular bottom 2. The diameter of the body increases from the bottom to a reinforcing rib 3 located approximately three-quarters of the height, and is constant above. Above the projection 3 is fixed a handle 4 which can pivot around a horizontal axis to be folded along the body by means of a pivot mounting 5. A cover 6 can be fixed on the upper edge of the body l . Details of the shape of the upper edge of the body and the outer edge of the cover are visible in Figure 2. This figure shows above the cylindrical part 7 of the body, and going upwards, a groove 8, the lower edge 9 makes, in section, an angle of about 300 with the vertical. The groove 8 has a vertical bottom, that is to say cylindrical, and its upper edge 10 inclined at about 450 on the vertical extends to beyond the vertical of the surface 7 to form a rib 11. The top of the rib 11 constitutes a planar face 12, that is to say horizontal in section. The edge of the body 1 ends in a roll 13 facing inward and the innermost part of which is substantially at the same distance from the axis as the bottom of the groove 8; the radius of the roll 13 is such that this roll uncovers about half the width of the outer surface 12 of the rib 11.

 The cover 6 has, from the axis first of all a flat part 14, then a step 15 which has a slope of about 20 upwards, a flat peripheral part 16, which is connected to a wide groove d 'snap 17, bounded by an inner vertical cylindrical face 18, and an outer vertical cylindrical surface 19. The bottom of the groove comprises, from the cylindrical part 18 a first zone 20 extending approximately over 900 with a first radius R1, which is followed by a second part 21 also extending over approximately 900 and in the radius R2 is approximately twice the radius R1 of the first part. These two parts, together, therefore constitute an arc of around 1800. They are connected to a short cylindrical part 22, the distance to the center of which is intermediate between the radius of the cylindrical part of the body and that of the bottom of the groove 8 of the same body. Part 22 is connected upwards to an oblique part 23, which makes an angle of approximately 300 with the vertical, and which is intended to cooperate with the lower edge 9 of the groove 8. This part 23 is connected to the part vertical cylindrical 19 which forms the outer edge of the groove 17. The distance to the axis of the cylindrical surface 19 is slightly less than the distance to the axis of the bottom of the groove 8 and the innermost part of the roll 13 Beyond the groove 17, the cover has a short flat part 4, and ends in a roll 25.

The distance between the outer edge of the roll 25 and the cylindrical part 19 is approximately equal to the distance between the outer edge of the rib 11 of the cover and the bottom of the roll 23. The roll 25 is turned downwards and thus defines a sort of groove facing upwards, which is filled with a flexible sealing gasket 26. The distance between the lower surface of the seal 26 and the upper edge of the recessed area 23 is approximately equal to the vertical distance between the upper end of the lower edge 9 of the groove 8 and the top of the roll 13, so that when the groove 17 cooperates with the groove 8 of the body by contact between their oblique surfaces 9 and 23, the seal 26 comes to bear on the roll 13, and thus achieves the sealing of the closure.

 The roll 25 is of small radius, at most equal to that of the roll 13 and it thus establishes upon closing, between the roll 25 and the flat surface 12 of the body a space 27 into which it is possible to insert a tool such as a screwdriver or coin to open the cover.

 FIG. 3 shows a variant of FIG. 2, the difference relating only to the upper edge of the cover. In fact, after the flat surface 12, the edge has a short vertical part 30 followed by an inward rounded 14, s extending over 1800, a vertical downward portion 32 and a final roll 33 facing outward and bearing internally on the underside 10 of the rib 11. The assembly constitutes an external bulk surface similar to that obtained at l using the roll 13 of FIG. 2 but the upper edge of the cover thus has greater rigidity, which guarantees better sealing after prolonged use, on the other hand, this variant is a little more complicated to obtain.

 It has been found that both variants allow an excellent seal, obtained by putting the cover in place by a simple push in the axial direction.

 On the other hand, the shape of the covers means that they have little tendency to get caught in each other when they are stacked, for example in an automatic capping machine. It has also been found that, during an internal overpressure, this has substantially no effect tending to the untimely opening of the cover, thanks to the great flexibility of the groove 17, which allows a deformation of the part central cover without destroying the seal.

 Furthermore, the rib ll provides effective protection of the sides of the pot and, possibly of the decoration they carry. This decoration can even go up to the vertical part 30 of FIG. 3.

Claims (3)

 l. Container composed of a body (1) comprising a circular bottom (2) and a cylindrical or frustoconical wall ending in a roll at its upper edge, and of a cover (6) held on the body by snap-fastening and comprising a veil central plane (14), characterized in that the wall of the body has successively from the bottom, a reentrant (8) of which at least the lower part (9) is oblique, a projection (ll) whose upper part is plane, and said roll (13, 32, 33) whose internal diameter is equal to or less than that of said reentrant and whose external diameter is less than that of said projection; in that the cover comprises, from the edge, a roll (25) whose external diameter is greater than that of the roll of the body and less than or equal to that of the projection, a vertical part (l9) of diameter at most equal to that of the reentrant, and an oblique portion (23) calculated to cooperate with said lower oblique portion of said reentrant for holding the cover by snap-fastening; and in that a lining (26) of flexible sealing material is provided between the roll of the cover and said vertical part of the cover, this lining being calculated to come to bear on the roll of the body when said oblique part is position of cooperation with said lower part of the reentrant.  2. Container according to claim l, characterized in that the roll (13) of the body is turned inwards and is located entirely above said projection (11).  3. Container according to claim l characterized in that the roll (32,33) of the body is turned inward and has a part (32) which is located above said projection (1) and another part (33 ) which is located below the upper part of said projection and bears on the internal face of the latter.
