Abstract

This device consists of a shell 1 made from moulded plastic which fits easily on the handle 2 of the saw 3 to which it is fixed by means of a threaded calliper 13 and nuts 15. Description

Protective device for manual saw handle.

 The present invention relates to a protective device for a manual saw handle, for example a metal saw, but not exclusively, intended to protect the user's hand against impact.

 It often happens that the user's hand holding the handle of a saw comes into violent contact with the workpiece or vice that holds it, especially at the end of the cut or in the event of a blade break, sometimes causing injuries. serious. Also, the object of the device object of one invention is to obviate this drawback.

 This simple, practical and inexpensive device consists of a molded plastic shell which easily adapts to the handle of the saw to which it is fixed by means of a threaded bracket and nuts.

 In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the protective shell of substantially parallelepipedal shape is pierced with two superimposed openings allowing the passage of the fastening members of the saw, while it is retained in the axis of the handle by means of two grooves which leave between them bulges which form the internal wall of the shell.

 The shell thus attached to the saw handle surrounds the fingers of the user's hand and acts as a protective screen in the event of an impact.

 The details of the invention will be better understood from the description which follows, referring to the appended drawing which shows, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of the device.

 Figure 1 is an elevational view of a protective shell adapted to the handle of a hacksaw.

 In the drawings, the reference 1 designates the protective device adapted around the handle 2 of a hacksaw 3, shown in phantom.

 This protective device has the form of a shell of molded plastic material, substantially parallelepipedal, the faces of which are connected by large conges. The rear face 4 opens onto the handle 2 to allow the hand 5 of the user shown in phantom to pass. The front face of the shell is pierced with two openings 6 and 7, the first 6 at the top for the passage of the frame 8 of the saw connected to the handle, the second 7 at the bottom for the passage of the saw 3 fixed to the grip.

 With the internal wall of the shell 1, two pairs of bulges 9 and 10 superimposed came from molding.

Between the bulges of each pair, there remains a groove 11 respectively 12 for guiding and holding the shell 1 on the handle 2 along its vertical axis, as shown more particularly in FIG. 2.

 The attachment of the shell 1 to the handle 2 of the saw is carried out, in the example shown, by means of a stirrup 13 mounted astride the front part 14 of said handle. The ends of the stirrup arms are threaded to allow the screwing of nuts. The two branches of the stirrup 13 pass through holes made in the shell 1 and the tightening of the nuts 5 takes place against the washers 16 which bear against the external face of the shell.

 To fix the shell 1, simply remove the frame 8 and the saw 3 from the handle 2. Then, the handle 2 is penetrated into the shell 1 by sliding it into the upper 11 and lower 12 grooves reserved between the pairs internal bulges 9 and 10, until the means for fixing the frame 8 and the saw 3 pass through the two openings 6 and 7 and the front part 14 is supported in the bottom of the shell.

 Finally, the stirrup 13 is fixed to secure the handle 2 and the shell 1. It is then necessary to reassemble the frame 8 and the saw 3. Lapoignée 2 is surrounded by the shell 1 so that the hand of the user who grasps the saw handle is protected at finger level, as shown in Figure 3.

 It goes without saying that the shape of the shell is not limiting. Likewise, the means for fixing the shell 1 to the handle 2 can be replaced by any other equivalent device, without going beyond the ambit of the invention.

Claims.  1- Protection device for a manual saw handle, characterized in that it consists of a shell (1), fitted on the handle (2) of the saw (3) and fixed by means of a clamping member, so that it surrounds the fingers of the user's hand and acts as a protective screen against impact.  2- Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the shell (1) has a substantially parallelepiped shape, that its rear face (4) opens on the handle (2) of the saw and that its front face is pierced two openings (6,7) for the passage of the frame (8) of the saw blade (3).  3- Device according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that with the inner wall of the shell (1) came molding two pairs of bulges (9,10) extending in line with the openings (6,7 ) of the shell (1) to hold it in the vertical axis of the handle (2) engaged in the two grooves (11,12) which they reserve.  4- Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the shell (1) is made integral with the handle (2) by means of a bracket (13), washers (16) and nuts (15 ) screwed onto the threaded arms of said stirrup mounted astride the handle and passing through the shell wall.  5- Device according to the preceding claims, characterized in that the shell (1) and its fixing means on the handle, are molded plastic.
