 The present invention relates to a new type of thread making it possible to obtain articles, and more particularly knitwear, having characteristics similar to those produced from scotch thread.

 Scottish yarns are well known to technicians and are more particularly used for the production of knitted articles, socks for example.

 In general, such threads have the characteristics of being very fine, resistant, of giving a very particular appearance and feel.

Thus, such yarns consist of a plied cotton mercerized. Taking into account these characteristics, they imply for their manufacture the use of cotton of very good quality which, on the one hand, are of a high cost and, on the other hand, are only available on the market .limited quantity.

Now we have found, and this is what is the subject of the present invention, a new type of complex yarn which makes it possible to obtain articles having characteristics similar to those made of pure scotch yarn and which, not only, does not require for its manufacture to use cotton fibers of very good quality but also allows to be manufactured in a much simpler and economical way by requiring less processing operation

 To obtain a balanced yarn, it was determined that the wrapping tension should be, in this case, 950 t / s.

 From such a yarn, socks are produced on a conventional knitting machine which, at the fall of the loom, have characteristics similar to those made from a pure scotch yarn with regard to touch. , the appearance, the mechanical resistance, in particular the abrasion, the article obtained being moreover perfectly satisfactory.

 Of course, the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment given above but it covers all the variants produced in the same spirit.

 Thus, if good results are obtained by using polyester yarn as the covering yarn, it could be envisaged to use other types of chemical yarn, polyamide for example.

 Compared with prior Scottish yarns, the yarn according to the invention is not only considerably less expensive but can also be produced from less noble fibers while having a very fine finished yarn.
