on fabrique un tissu ou tricot en alternant les retors symétriques et l'on soumet le tissu ou tricot à un traitement par la chaleur humide au cours duquel la température est portée brusquement et pendant quelques minutes seulement jusqu'à la température maximum de retrait total sans dégradation de la fibre textile la plus fragile constituant le tissu ou tricot ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Manufacturing process for textile products comprising synthetic elastic fibers Processes for manufacturing synthetic crepe fabrics are known according to which starting from a synthetic core yarn devoid of shrinkage, a twist is prepared from this yarn and from least one other yarn of any kind, and after manufacture of the fabric, the latter is subjected to a heat treatment with saturated steam.
A method of manufacturing crepe-type fabrics is also known by using strongly twisted vinyl fibers, alternating in the manufacture of the fabric, S-twist yarns and Z-twist yarns.
Elastic threads are also known comprising an elastic thread twisted with another thread, these two threads being proportioned so that, in the relaxed state of the elastic thread, the covering thread is wound around the elastic thread so as to form many loops.
We have now found a process which can be used for very elastic synthetic materials and in particular for polyurethane-based materials, such as the fibers which can currently be found on the market under the trade names Lycra, Vyrène> and T 1700 r. According to the process of the invention, a synthetic core yarn, heat-retractable, is given a twist greater than its spinning twist,
a twist is formed by assembling this thread with at least one wrapping thread previously twisted at a rate lower than that of the core thread, a symmetrical twist is formed in the same way,
a fabric or knit is made by alternating symmetrical twists and the fabric or knit is subjected to a treatment by moist heat during which the temperature is raised suddenly and for a few minutes only up to the maximum temperature of total shrinkage without degradation of the most fragile textile fiber constituting the fabric or knit;
this method is characterized in that the core is made of elastic material, in that the twisting of the core and of the coating wire is carried out by milling and in that the assembly twist is in the opposite direction to the twist of the elastic core, these threads being proportioned so that, in the contracted state of the elastic thread, the covering thread forms numerous loops.
A fabric that is at least partially elastic, that is to say formed of elastic threads optionally added to conventional threads in at least one direction, weft and / or warp, can be obtained in accordance with the method described above, while respecting the following particular modalities First of all, the elastic thread undergoes a milling operation intended to increase its twist and during which a high overlap and a high spindle speed are combined, taking care to have a very constant tension. The elastic thread thus twisted is received,
for example on metal tubes.
This elastic thread is then assembled by twisting with at least one non-specially elastic thread. The twisting can be done advantageously by the hollow spindle method, the latter being traversed by the elastic thread which can be said - by analogy with the wrapping - that it constitutes the core of the twist. The tension of the conventional thread constituting the coating is made very constant because that of the elastic thread can vary slightly.
Care is taken to produce perfectly symmetrical S and Z twists under identical conditions from all points of view (speed, tension, adjustment of the weightings, hardness of the pins), so as to obtain perfectly united fabrics or knits.
The assembly torsion has a preferable value not only when the twists have the same direction of torsion opposite to that of assembly, in which case this value is close to 1700 turns per meter, but also when the twists have opposite directions of torsion. , in which case this value is close to 650 turns per
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
meter in the opposite direction to that of the most twisted twist. These preferable values are independent of the title of tors contrary to what Koechlin's law teaches.
The method of the invention makes it possible to assemble a thread made of a very elastic material with another thread with little or no stretch which may be of any nature, that is to say synthetic or natural, dyed or ecru, fancy or regular, retracted or free of any withdrawal, continuous or discontinuous and more or less twisted.
By acting on the twist of at least one of the twists of the twist, the elastic characteristics of this yarn can be adjusted. For example, by increasing the twist of the elastic yarn alone and by reducing the twist of the twist, at least separately, the extensibility of this twist is reduced and its retention force is increased for a given elongation. Conversely, by reducing the twist of the elastic yarn alone and by increasing the twist of the twist separately or simultaneously, the extensibility is increased and the retention force of said twist is reduced for a given elongation.
It is moreover still possible to modify, and therefore to adjust, the elasticity of the fabrics by a suitable weaving technique supplementing the results which result from the reeling.
Until now, yarns composed of a very elastic synthetic material have been produced by the wrapping technique according to which numerous turns of a coating yarn are wound around an untwisted core. Such threads are known to be very delicate, if not impossible to weave, because the turns tend to slide along the relatively smooth core which is the elastic thread and to accumulate, promoting the breaking of the thread, without possible control. elastic elongation.
The core of the twist used in the process according to the invention is a crepe yarn which can be very twisted. Moreover, the coating material is mounted under a very constant tension. These two characters taken together avoid the drawbacks mentioned for covered yarns. In addition, the elongation of the twists thus produced is limited by the elongation of their coatings, which results in the possibility of controlling the elasticity of these twists.
In addition to the handling advantages which have just been explained, the elastic twist used in the process according to the present invention exhibits a remarkable fluffy appearance produced by the coating yarn if the natural retention of its core is allowed to take place. This particular effect is already evident on the knit or fabric produced as soon as the loom has fallen, but it is accentuated by the heat treatment.
The elasticity of the textile products obtained is made constant and permanent in the finished fabric by the thermal shock. It is possible to give it very different characteristics depending on the use for which the fabric or knitting is intended, and to subject these textile products to conventional dyeing or finishing treatments which slightly alter this elasticity.
Figs. 1 to 3 show on a large scale an elastic twisted yarn obtained during the process according to the invention, in the free state, in the moderately tensioned state and under its weaving or knitting tension, respectively.
This elastic twist has a characteristic appearance which also depends on its tension and which appears in the accompanying drawing. In fig. 1, the thread is in the free state, not tensioned and forms numerous loops. In fig. 2 corresponding to a medium tension, loops still appear which explain the fluffy appearance of the fabrics made with this twist. In fig. 3, the thread is ready for use on the loom and its tension is even higher, although the particular value chosen may still be exceeded.
Weaving or knitting is in fact easily done on condition of distributing as equally as possible the tension force between the twists, which occurs at a value much lower than that which can be supported from the twist formed of non-elastic materials. . The state of equilibrium achieved prevents any backflow of the coating around the elastic core with formation of loops and breakage.
The fabric or knit obtained is then heat treated in the loose and wrinkle-free state, the treatment temperature being able to reach the total shrinkage temperature for a few tens of seconds without degrading the least resistant textile fiber. The temperature rise and the cooling are carried out as quickly as possible. Example 1 From a 70 denier elastic stranded yarn, free of any shrinkage, a twist crepe yarn S 2200 t / m is produced.
With this same yarn, we make a twist crepe yarn Z 2200 tfm.
These crepe yarns are twisted with a polyamide wrapping yarn, according to the assembly table below

A taffeta fabric is produced, the warp of which alternately comprises an S twist and a Z twist, the weft being of polyester-viscose. The heat treatment is identical to that of Example I.
The weaving or knitting of the twists thus produced takes place, after thermal stabilization of the yarn and abundant sizing with a product based on linseed oil,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
pectant the condition of equality of tensions for the tors exposed above. Yarns that are not especially elastic can be incorporated into the fabric or knit.
The composite twists can be used interchangeably in knitting or in weaving, always symmetrically, with an extreme variety of weaves. They can be alternated with each other or with conventional threads.
The knits or fabrics produced have, in addition to their appearance already described, a more or less significant elasticity. It goes without saying that if one seeks only pure elasticity, without the crepe effect, it is sufficient to use twists in accordance with Example II. This elasticity may correspond to a greater or lesser percentage of elastic threads oriented in only one direction of the textile product obtained and alternating, if necessary, with different threads. It may also correspond to higher or lower percentages of elastic threads, these threads being oriented in the two directions of the textile and said percentages possibly differing in weft and warp.
Elastic fabrics or knits with a sparkling appearance can be obtained by combining elastic twists, in weaving, alternating with low-twisted multi-strand yarns with a relatively high number of plies, with yarns containing staple fibers, woolly feel, in in particular the acrylonitrile fiber known under the trade name Orlon, or even with threads based on natural fibers.
You just have to combine these two possibilities to obtain elastic crepes with a sparkling appearance.
