Abstract

The mechanism is intended for sorting objects, e.g. fruit, into different sizes. It comprises rollers (8) with stub shafts (9) at both ends which are carried between links (2) of two parallel endless chains and roll on a straight track (10). Each chain link (2) has a disc-shaped portion (3) with cut-off segment (5) and a longitudinally forked portion (4) receiving the portion (3) of the preceding link. Each forked portion has a curved slot (7) concentric with the disc and the portion (3) has a bore (6) near one corner. Each stub shaft (9) extends through a slot (7) of one and a bore (6) of the adjoining link. The links are guided at top (12,14 etc.) and bottom (11,13 etc.) to vary the relative level between the links to cause their relative rotation and thus successively alter the distance between adjacent rollers.
