Abstract

1. A system for mounting round or substantially round stones for articles of jewellery in which the stones are carried by a mounting or body (1) delimiting a frame or housing (3) within which they are fixed, the body (1) having : on the one hand orifice (4) in the base of the frame or housing, which are equal in number to the stones (2), are arranged in at least two parallel rows, and act as a support and a housing for the tips of the pavillon (8) of the stones ; and on the other hand, a groove (7) in its peripheral wall, in which rest the girdles (9) of the stones (2), characterised in that the stones (2) are placed longitudinally and transversely edge to edge but every four delimit an orifice through which passes a rod (6), the lower end of which is fixed to the base of the body (1) and the upper end (10) of which is set above the girdles (9) of the four stones (2).

  This assembly gives all satisfaction for jewelry comprising only one row of stones. It is certainly usable for jewelry comprising two rows of stones, the L-profile then being replaced by an inverted T-profile. The fixing of the stones is as effective as in the first case, whatever the size of the stones, but the soul of the inverted T constitutes

  a barrier that harms the brilliance of the stones.

  In this drawing, (l) designates the body of a ring which, in its thicker front face, carries stones (2) arranged in two rows of four

stones each.

  The body (1) comprises for this purpose, in its zone of greater thickness, a housing (3), of generally parallelepiped shape This housing is open upwards, that is to say in the direction of the visible face of the ring; and in its bottom are drilled, right through, orifices (4), the number of which is equal to that of the stones (2), and the arrangement of which is identical to that which the stones must adopt These orifices (4) are therefore arranged in two parallel rows comprising

each four holes.

  In the bottom of the housing (3) are also drilled blind holes (5) which, in the case shown in the drawing, are three in number These holes are arranged along a longitudinal center line of the housing (3); they are located on this line of intersection points with the transverse lines passing through the areas of

junction between stones.

  In the wall of the housing (3) is arranged a peripheral groove (7) It is this groove which, in combination with the orifices (4) and with the rods (6), allows the immobilization of the stones inside the

  housing (3), and therefore in the body of the ring.

  By their cylinder heads (8), the stones (2) indeed penetrate each in an orifice (4) of the body of the jewel, and by their round (9) the stones each take support in the groove (7) of the housing (3) The assembly of stones (2) and housing (3) having been correctly dimensioned, the stones are contiguous inside this housing; and their final immobilization is obtained by means of the rods (6), the upper end (10) of which is transformed by crimping into a head which partially covers the

  roundabout of the four stones located around chaquetige.

  The rods (6) therefore behave like nails by which the stones (2) are definitively immobilized inside the housing (3) arranged in

the body (1) of the ring.

  As can be seen, and as is apparent from the drawing, the fixing of the stones (2) is carried out very effectively, even if they are stones of small dimensions; and due to the particularly reduced surface of the fixing means relative to the surface of the stones, the brilliance of the latter is brought to the maximum; the stone surface hidden by

  fixing means is indeed reduced to a minimum.

  It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this system for mounting stones for jewelry items which has been described above by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all of the variant embodiments, whatever the jewel in question, of course, and it extends its field of application to the case where the rods serving as fixing nails are welded to the bottom of the support without having been provided with blind holes used for centering them.

Claims (3)

  1. Stone mounting system for jewelry articles, characterized in that the body (1) of the jewel   comprises a housing (3) of generally parallelepiped shape   dique, which is open towards the top, has at its bottom at least two rows of orifices (4) in number equal to that of the stones (2), and in the wall of which is provided a groove (7) in which take supports the stone rounders, the assembly being dimensioned in such a way that the stones (2) are joined in the housing (3) and that in the middle zone separating two rows, they delimit channels serving as housing for rods (6 ) whose lower ends are welded to the bottom of the housing, that is to say in the body of the jewel, and whose heads (10)   are set above the round stones.   2. Stone mounting system according to claim 1, characterized in that the rods (10), serving as studs for fixing the stones (2) in the body (1) of the jewel, are fixed by welding from their lower end directly on the bottom of the housing   (3) arranged in the body of the jewel.   3. Stone mounting system according to claim 1, characterized in that the rods (10), serving as studs for fixing the stones (2) in the body (1) of the jewel, are fixed in blind holes (5) drilled in the bottom of the housing (3) in the body of the jewel.
