Description

The subject of the invention is a stone mounting system for jewelry articles such as: rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches, earrings ...

Traditional assemblies use supports in which the stones are set. These supports are often rings or, more generally, kittens with two, three or four claws. These arrangements do not allow the secure fixing of small stones, nor sufficiently highlight the brilliance of the stones, since they conceal too large a surface.

In FR-A-2 450 078 the Applicant has described another mounting means which does not have these drawbacks. The support for the stones is in fact constituted by a generally L-shaped profile, the horizontal wing of which has orifices serving as seats for the cylinder heads of the stones, and the vertical wing of which has a groove in which the roundness of each stone is held in abutment by two rods which are welded to the horizontal wing of the profile and have their upper ends folded down by crimping above the rounder. The stone is thus held in at least three zones.

This assembly gives all satisfaction for jewelry with only one row of stones. It is certainly usable for jewelry comprising two rows of stones, the L-shaped section then being replaced by an inverted T-shaped section. The fixing of the stones is as effective as in the first case, whatever the size of the stones, but the soul of the inverted T constitutes a barrier which harms the brilliance of the stones.

The invention eliminates this drawback. It relates to a mounting system in which the round or substantially round stones are carried by a frame or body which delimits a frame or housing inside which they are fixed, the body having on the one hand, in the bottom of the frame or housing, orifices which are equal in number to that of the stones, are arranged in at least two parallel rows, and serve as support and housing at the point of the breech of the stones; and on the other hand, in its peripheral wall, a groove (7) in which the rondistres (9) of the stones (2) bear.

In the mounting system according to the invention, the stones are joined longitudinally and transversely but four by four delimit an orifice crossed by a rod whose lower end is fixed to the bottom of the body and whose upper end is crimped above round stones from the four stones.

  • Figure 1 est une vue en perspective de cette bague ;
The invention will be understood moreover with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended diagrammatic drawing representing, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of this mounting system in the case of its application to a ring:
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of this ring;
  • Figure 2 is, on a larger scale, a plan view of its area bearing the stones, and
  • Figure 3 is, on an even larger scale, a sectional view along 3-3 of Figure 2.

In this drawing, (1) denotes the body of a ring which, in its thicker front face, carries stones (2) arranged in two rows of four stones each.

The body (1) comprises for this purpose, in its zone of greater thickness, a housing (3), of generally parallelepiped shape. This housing is open upwards, that is to say towards the visible face of the ring; and in its bottom are pierced, right through, orifices (4), the number of which is equal to that of the stones (2), and the arrangement of which is identical to that which the stones must adopt. These orifices (4) are therefore arranged in two parallel rows each comprising four orifices.

In the bottom of the housing (3) are also drilled blind holes (5) which, in the case shown in the drawing, are three in number. These holes are arranged along a longitudinal center line of the housing (3); they are located on this line at the points of intersection with the transverse lines passing through the junction zones between the stones.

These holes (5) are intended for fixing rods (6); this fixing is done by welding.

In the wall of the housing (3) is arranged a peripheral groove (7). It is this groove which, in combination with the orifices (4) and with the rods (6), allows the immobilization of the stones inside the housing (3), and therefore in the body of the ring.

By their cylinder heads (8), the stones (2) indeed penetrate each in an orifice (4) of the body of the jewel, and by their round (9) the stones each take support in the groove (7) of the housing (3) . The assembly of stones (2) and housing (3) having been correctly dimensioned, the stones are contiguous inside this housing; and their final immobilization is obtained by means of the rods (6), the upper end (10) of which is transformed by crimping into a head which partially covers the circle of the four stones situated around each rod. The rods (6) therefore behave like nails by which the stones (2) are definitively immobilized inside the housing (3) arranged in the body (1) of the ring.

As can be seen, and as is apparent from the drawing, the fixing of the stones (2) is carried out very effectively, even if they are stones of small dimensions; and due to the particularly reduced surface of the fixing means relative to the surface of the stones, the brilliance of the latter is brought to the maximum; the stone surface hidden by the fixing means is indeed reduced to a minimum.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this stone mounting system for jewelry items which has been described above by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all the variant embodiments thereof, whatever the jewel in question is of course, and it extends its field of application to the case where the rods serving as fixing nails are welded to the bottom of the support without having been provided with blind holes for centering.
