Abstract

A device for sealing the corners of thermoplastic profiles for window frames etc. comprised a heated blade which can soften and split the end of the profile and then swing to reshape the material to form an integral seal across an angled interface. Esp. applicable to frames for supporting double glazing in a channel section featuring an internal hollow "T" section rib, as described in Fr. Appl. No.69.00917. Avoids use of machining or ancillary adhesives by reshaping the original matl. to modify and close the channel profile for mating at e.g. at 45 deg. interface without risk of venting the hollow core profile. Pref. the profile is clamped to a support table alongside which the blade is mounted with an in-line ram on a slide bed which can be pivotted adjacent to the profile bed by an ancillary double-acting ram. Safety stops prevent the blade from advancing if no profile has been loaded.
