Abstract

The light beam is measured before and after passing through the sample to provide a reference value. A circular platform is rotated by gears driven from a step motor output shaft. The platform carries a number of measuring cells with circular upper sections and rectangular lower sections. Light from a luminous source passes through the cells as they pass. The light is received by a photocell via an opaque annular screen behind the cells. Openings aligned with the cells allow the light to pass through and allow the photocell to measure the light intensity before and after as well as when the cell passes to provide a reference value of light intensity.
