Abstract

The structural panel collects solar energy, to clad building roofs, and incorporates a base slab of insulating material sandwiched between two trapezoidally undulating metal sheets. Pipes for heat-carrying fluid are mounted on the base, a cavity being formed by a transparent sheet spanning filler joists. A pipe runs along each side of each base trough and the joists are mounted on pronounced ridge formations at regular intervals. The sheet edges may house into non-axial joist grooves, the latter enlarging at the head to accommodate an overlapped joint of transverse sheet edges. Transparent frame clips, secured by stirrups, may locate pipes which connect to an eaves level main.

Description

The present invention, due to the collaboration of Mr. Xavier
FRANCOIS, Director of the Mardyck Factory of the Applicant Company, concerns solar energy collectors, produced in the form of panels and in particular in the form of panels that can be used as construction elements.

Solar energy collectors are known consisting of insulated boxes covered at their upper part by a glass wall and containing an absorbent plate under which are
disposed of the circulation pipes of a heat transfer fluid. The pla
that absorbent is preferably painted black for better absorption. The heat transfer fluid which circulates in the conduits
is heated by transmission of heat from the plate to the tu
bes and is collected to be generally transmitted to an exchanger.

These boxes are most often arranged in batteries on the ground or on a roof and their position, orientation and
in inclination is chosen to obtain maximum efficiency. This is
as in France, the orientation chosen will be a South orientation,
the optimum inclination being of the order of 450 When the panel or
box is thus installed on a roof, it does not constitute an element
ment of the latter so that apart from the higher cost than
represents the duplication of the cover elements and the element
sensor, it also results from this arrangement a drop in ren
dement, not at the level of solar energy recovery
but more generally if we consider the heat balance
of the whole building, since we multiply the interfaces between
hot zones and cold zones and that the insulating material incorporated
au}: caissons plays no role in insulating the roof and
the part of the briment immediately underlying.

Another disadvantage of known boxes results from
fact that in a battery of adjacent caissons, the connection between two
juxtaposed elements is performed only at the circuits
of heat transfer fluid, for example by means of flexible connectors, while this connection does not exist at the level of the structures of the caissons. There is therefore no seal between two adjacent boxes, which is moreover not essential in conventional design since the sensor boxes do not play any role as a building or covering element.

The object of this invention is to produce a panel serving simultaneously as a building element and as a solar energy collector, which lends itself to industrialized manufacture and whose assembly is particularly simple, this main objective being matched as will appear during the description which follows, of non-negligible secondary advantages.

For this purpose; the subject of the invention is a building element forming a solar energy collector, of the type comprising a support, a network of tubes in which a heat transfer fluid circulates, and a transparent cover wall, characterized in that the support comprises a panel ribbed type "sandwich" formed of two metal facing sheets separated by a core of insulating material, at least some of the tubes being arranged along the ribs of the upper facing t81e, the transparent cover wall being formed of panels supported by spacers fixed on the tops of the ribs of the upper facing sheet.

According to other characteristics
- The intermediate pieces comprise along their lateral faces grooves in which the edges of the transparent cover panels are received, these grooves comprising a part which opens freely at their lower end and at their upper end and which is intended to receive a first transparent panel, and a second part disposed at their upper end, and comprising a shoulder ensuring the abutment and the maintenance of a transparent panel which partly overlaps the aforementioned transparent panel.

- There are provided tube holding members relative to the upper facing sheet, these holding members being preferably mounted so as to be able to move over a certain distance, perpendicular to said holding plate.

- The tube holding members are themselves laterally retained in position by stirrups fixed to the upper facing sheet.

The invention will be described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing, given solely by way of example and in which

- Fig. 2 is a partial sectional view along line 2-2 of FIG. 1;

We see in the drawing part of a building cover made using elements according to the invention. These elements are made using a composite panel P of the "sandwich" type formed from a ribbed upper facing sheet 1 and an inner ribbing sheet also ribbed 2, separated by a core of insulating material 3. Such a panel can be for example of the type marketed under the brand ONDATHERM 101, of the Société des Laminoirs de Strasbourg. In the example chosen, the ribs 4 of the lower sheet are of small amplitude, while the upper facing sheet has main ribs 5 substantially higher than secondary ribs 6 disposed between these main ribs. These various ribs have in the l 'together an isosceles trapezium shape but it is clear that other shapes could also be envisaged without departing from the scope of this invention.

This support panel is completed by a network of tubes 10 made of copper or similar material, which may, if necessary, include fins and in which a heat transfer fluid which can circulate. be for example either water containing an anti-freeze or a Freon.

At their upper and lower parts, the tubes are connected respectively to a manifold 11 for supplying heat transfer fluid and to a manifold 12 for discharging this same layer (Fig. 4 and 5).

The panel is completed by longitudinal elements 20 intended to be fixed to the tops of the main ribs.
ab cipaux, for example by means of threaded rods 20- and nuts 20-> and which serve as support for transparent cover panels 30. These transparent panels can be made of tempered glass or of a suitable synthetic substance such as metacrymate, the main thing being that this material withstands both the mechanical and thermal shocks to which it may be subjected. The longitudinal members 20 have grooves on their lateral faces, the shape of which can clearly be seen in FIG. 3. A main part 21 of this groove extends over the entire length of the element and opens at the two lower and upper ends of the latter, so as to receive a first cover panel 30.This main groove is completed at the upper part of the element considered in the position of use, by a rebate or a secondary groove 22 which delimits a shoulder 23 and is intended to receive and serve as a stop for a cover panel 31 overlapping with respect to the panel 30 cited above. This makes it particularly simple to seal the successive transparent panels. Of course, seals can also be provided to improve if necessary the seal between the panels as well as between these panels and their supports. These can be made into sections or cut to length so as to avoid joints.

At at least some of the fixing points of the longitudinal elements 20 on the upper facing sheet, are arranged stirrups 40 which are best seen in FIG. 2 and which project on either side of the rib on which they are fixed. In rivea these stirrups are simple and extend only on one side of the rib. They provide lateral support for members 41 for retaining the tubes which are transparent and have along their lower edge 42 a profile suitable for ensuring the maintenance of the tubes. These same retaining members have along their lateral edges 43 a shape complementary to that of the main ribs 5 and they have a height such that sufficient clearance remains between their upper edge 44 and the transparent panel 30 adjacent. , the expansions of the tubes of these holding elements can be absorbed without jamming or the appearance of stress liable to deform or damage the panel or its components.

The retaining members 41 may also be constituted by a simple metal or plastic frame having a shape similar to that shown in the drawing.

Preferably, the collectors 11, 12 are incorporated into the panels so as to participate in the collection of solar energy.

Thus, at the level of the lower part of a panel according to the invention, used as a covering element of a building (FIG. 4), there is provided an edge element 50 constituted by a metallic envelope 51 filled with an insulating material 52 and delimiting a housing 53 for the collecting tube 12. This element 50 is fixed for example by a metal sheet 54 to the lower facing -2 of the adjacent "sandvvich" panel and it is also connected to the upper facing 1 of this panel by means of the elements 20 for supporting the transparent panels 30. Such an edge element can serve as a support for a gutter 55.

Likewise, at the upper part of the roof since it is this application which has been illustrated, a fat'tirer element 60 is provided, consisting of a metal envelope 61 suitably profiled and containing an insulating material 62. Sealing members such as 63 are also provided to cover and assemble these elements of fact and the adjacent panels.

In general, these connection and sealing techniques between adjacent panels are perfectly conventional in the use of ribbed sandwich panels such as those used according to the invention. It is therefore unnecessary to describe in detail their various achievements.

- le même panneau assure simultanément les fonctions d'un élément de construction ou de couverture, par exemple pour la réalisation d'un mur rideau ou d'une toiture, et dlun capteur d'énergie solaire.Cet élément de construction participe également à l'isolation du bâtiment auquel il est incorporé ;
A titre
a de variante, on peut d'ailleurs prévoir des tubes 10- de section oblongue ou aplatie, calés dans l'intervalle entre deux nervures adjacentes (Fig. 69;
- il est possible de réaliser tout ou partie d'une toiture ou d'un mur latéral, ce qui outre la simplicité de construction offre un avantage particulier sur le plan de l'esthétique;
- le panneau " sandwich " nervuré et les éléments longitudinaux de support des panneaux transparents constituent des éléments résistants sur lesquels il est possible le cas échéant de marcher. A cet égard, on peut prévoir que les éléments de support 20 portent à intervalles réguliers des crochets 24 (Fig. 1) sur lesquels peuvent être fixés des planches ou éléments analogues transversaux permettant de circuler sur la toiture;
The advantages provided by a panel according to the invention are mainly the following
- the same panel simultaneously performs the functions of a building or roofing element, for example for the production of a curtain wall or a roof, and a solar energy collector. This building element also participates in the insulation of the building in which it is incorporated;
- it is made up of a certain number of metallic elements, made of plastic or glass, which can be easily assembled and therefore allow modular or, on the contrary, personalized construction
- the overall thermal efficiency is finally improved, even if the orientation and inclination of the panel do not correspond to ideal standards with regard to the solar energy collection function, given the reduction in the number of interfaces and the integration of the various functions indicated above, the contact between the tubes containing the coolant and the adjacent sheet is improved by the presence of the ribs.
a variant, it is also possible to provide tubes 10- of oblong or flattened section, wedged in the interval between two adjacent ribs (Fig. 69;
- it is possible to make all or part of a roof or a side wall, which in addition to the simplicity of construction offers a particular advantage in terms of aesthetics;
- The ribbed sandwich panel and the longitudinal support elements of the transparent panels constitute resistant elements on which it is possible, if necessary, to walk. In this regard, it can be provided that the support elements 20 carry at regular intervals hooks 24 (Fig. 1) on which can be fixed boards or similar transverse elements for circulation on the roof;
- The design of the support elements of the transparent panels and the tube retaining members allows the free expansion of the various components of the panel.
