Abstract

A plastic bag for use as a dustbin liner has a pair of deep wide integral sling-pattern handles which fold down for access to the bag mouth and are long enough to be knotted together to close and support the bag when full. Easier to move than plain open-topped bags to be gripped by their corners. Pref. the junctions between the base of the handles and the tops of the centre panels of the bag are generously radiused to allow the handles to fold away from the plane of the bag. Specifically claims bags where the handles are cut from gusset folds of depth 'p' so that the handles are 'h' long and 'E' apart such that 1 +2 p is less than or equal to 2h + 3 and H is greater than or equal to 1/2E.

Description

The present invention relates to a flexible plastic bag, provided with side bellows in which are formed, at least in part and at one end of said bag, straps parallel to each other serving as grips.

We already know of such bags, generally supplied by traders for the transport of their customers' purchases.

The object of the present invention is to adapt these known bags to make them suitable for use as interior linings for containers, for example trash cans.

We know that the rubbish dumped in bins, large or small, heavily soil the interior walls and the bottom thereof, which requires frequent and painful cleaning. In addition, the emptying of such bins can only be done by overturning, requiring prior lifting, which is painful and sometimes above the physical strength of some people.

To avoid frequent and painful cleaning of garbage cans, we have already thought of using flexible plastic bags with bellows as an inner lining of said garbage cans. Trash is then poured directly into the bags, so that the walls and bottom of the garbage cans cannot get dirty.

The bags used as liners do not have handles and the edges of the opening of the bags are folded over the edges of the opening of the bins. As a result, when a lining bag is full of trash, to remove it from its trash, the edges of the bags are unfolded and brought together to form a bun serving as a handle. Such a bun is hardly practical and makes it difficult to transport full bags.

The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback and to allow the use, as a bin lining, of a flexible bag with handles facilitating the transport thereof, when it is full. The use of such a bag was not possible until now, precisely because of the presence of said handles which prevented the folding of the edges of the opening of the bag on the edge of the opening of the bin.

To this end, according to the invention, the flexible plastic bag, provided with side bellows in which are formed, at least in part and at one end of said bag, straps parallel to each other serving as grips, is remarkable in that the width 1 of the bag placed flat with its bellows retracted, the depth p of each of said bellows, the height h of each of said straps and the spacing E thereof are chosen to satisfy at least approximately relation 1 + 2 p 2 h + E, with ha E2
Thus, it is easy to fold the edges of the bag, including the handles, all around the edge of the container and one can use said handles for transporting said bag. In addition, a regular flap is obtained around the periphery of the container, which ensures a good presentation without drawing on the handles.

According to the invention, the length of the handles is sufficient to allow them to be tied in order to close the bag. In order to facilitate the knotting of the handles, the connection of the interior edges of said handles with the edges of the opening of the bag is effected by a rounded notch. Such indentations at the base of the handles enlarge the internal perimeter of the cut between them, which increases their freedom of rotation in the plane of the bag.

The figures of the appended drawing will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.

Figure 1 is a flat view of the upper part of the bag according to the invention, the bellows being retracted.

Figure 2 is a flat view of the upper part of the bag according to the invention, the bellows being extended.

Figure 3 is a flat view of the upper part of the bag according to the invention, the bellows being extended and the handles being folded outwards.

The upper part of the flexible plastic bag shown in FIG. 1 is formed in a tubular sheath 1 comprising two opposite lateral folds, forming re-entrant bellows 2 and 3, bounded towards the inside of the bag by the fold lines 4 and 5 , respectively. When the bag is flat, it therefore has two identical faces, connected by said bellows. In FIG. 1, only the front face 6 is seen, connected to the bellows 2 and 3 by the fold lines 7 and 8 'respectively, which form the lateral edges of said face 1.

The upper edge of the bag is closed by a transverse weld line 9 and a large central cut 10, interrupting this weld line 9, is made in the upper part of the bag, in its two faces, so as to provide two lateral straps 11 and 12.

E is greater than the distance separating the bottoms 4 and 5 from the bellows 2 and 3, so that these are also indented.

Each of the two straps 11 and 12 is therefore formed of four thicknesses of flexible material, joined together by the weld line 9.

According to the main characteristic of the invention, the width 1 of the bag arranged flat with its bellows 2 and 3 retracted (Figure 1), the depth 2 of each of said bellows 2 and 3, the height h of each of the straps 11 and 12 and the spacing E of these are chosen to satisfy at least

Thus, when the bellows 2 and 3 are out (see FIG. 2) and the straps II and 12 are folded outwards (see FIG. 3), the folded ends 13, 14 of these straps are located at the near the outlet lines 4 and -5, so that the opening between the straps 11 and 12 corresponds to the normal opening of the bag and this bag can therefore be easily folded over the edge of a container, as explained above.

Furthermore, at the base of the straps 11 and 12, the cutout 10 has rounded notches 15 which give greater freedom of rotation to said straps, in the plane of the bag.

1.- Bag of flexible plastic material, provided with side bellows in which are formed, at least in part and at one end of said bag, straps parallel to each other serving as grips, characterized in that the width 1 of the bag disposed flat with its bellows retracted, the depth E of each of said bellows, the height h of each of said straps and the spacing E of these are chosen to satisfy at least approximately the relation E + 2 p S 2h + E with hu E2 2.- bag according to claim 1, characterized in that the connection of the inner edges of said handles with the edges of the opening of the bag is effected by a rounded notch.
