Abstract

Sepg. tank for the purificn. of waste water by sedimentation and/or flotation of pollutants, partic. grease, fat, oil, etc. The tank is of the type which has an inspection/emptying hole at the top, the hole being closed with a cover plate to keep in the stench of anaerobic putrefaction. Tank has an integral top cover which is not removable. An inspection hole is formed through the top cover and entirely surrounded by a horizontal, annular gutter. A removable cover plate fits over the hole and is supported by downward, annular flange which sits in the gutter. The gutter is filled with a sealing liq. in which the flange is immersed to a depth of at least 50 mm. The volume of liq. contained by the gutter is several times that of the immersed part of the flange. The cover plate may fit on top of an access chimney extended upwards from the tank top cover. In this case, the chimney base pref. sits in a liq. sealing gutter in the top cover in the same way as the cover plate now sits on top of the chimney. The liq. in the sealing gutter(s) pref. evaporates much more slowly than water. Used for purificn. of waste water by flotation and/or sedimentation of pollutants, esp. waste fat, grease, oil etc.
