Abstract

316,568. Grant, E. H. S. April 30, 1928. Gravity-separation apparatus. - A gully for separating greasy and other light materials from liquids comprises an inlet chamber fitted with a silt receptacle, a primary water-trap, a grease chamber containing a grease retaining and emptying vessel, and a secondary water-trap communicating with the drainage system. The liquid is admitted into the retangular gully shown through a top inlet 1 or side inlets 2. A vertical baffle plate 5 divides off a silt chamber 3 and forms a weir 6 over which the liquid falls into a primary water-trap 7, a splash guard 8 being provided above the plate 5. A grating 9, or a solid cover, fits over .the chamber 3, in which may be placed a removable silt receptacle 10. The waterseal 7 leading to the grease chamber 15 is formed by a depending plate 11 in which apertures 16 may be provided. The grease chamber 15 is provided with a removable grease-retaining receptacle 14 and with a central baffle plate 17. Thefsecondary water-seal 19 is formed by a deep depending plate 18, in which is a cleansing opening 20 closed by a plug 21. The open grease-retaining receptacle 14 is channel-shaped, decreasing in width towards its base. It is supported on narrow bearers 24 resting on ledges or lugs 13, 13A and is provided with a central vertical baffle plate 25 which does not reach to the bottom. The liquid passes between its walls and the plates 11, 18. One or more handles 27 prevent upwaxd movement of the receptacle 14 by contact with a solid cover 22. According to the Provisional Specification the grease-retaining receptacle rests directly on the supporting ledges and has internal baffle plates forming channels for the liquid.
