Abstract

The spring diaphragm automobile clutch uses a 'Z' section annular cover to secure a friction disc, a pressure plate and the diaphragm (11) on the flywheel. Cranked cover tongues (24,25) and an elastic ring (27) clamp the diaphragm (11) in place. The diaphragm comprises an annular belleville spring (11) from which radial fingers (19) cantilever internally, releases the pressure plate when a thrust bearing deflects the finger (19) ends. The external cover flange fixes to the flywheel the inner flange (10) ridging to form a diaphragm seat (22) whilst terminating in internal 'L' section (24,25) ring-retaining tongues. The ring (27) is cranked to form the counter seat (28), also being doubly cranked (31,32) to locate a window (33) traversed by the tongue bar (24).
