Abstract
The termination is for heavy cables working at between 1 and 50 kv. The termination allows connection to equipment etc. and provides protection against damage due to local field distortion at the cable end. Termination and protection is based on the use of a sleeve fitted over the partially stripped cable insulation, the sleeve being heavily loaded with a semiconductor material. The sleeve is very thin and elastic having a thickness of less than four millimeters and pref. between one and two millimeters. The percentage loading is between 30 and 80 and pref. between 50 and 65% by volume. The loading material may be silicon, germanium etc. granules having a 5 to 20 microns size distribution, the sleeve material being silicon rubber or polyethylene.
