Abstract

Appts. for sampling and testing radioactive aerosols in an atmos. comprises a chamber with an opening in its lower part closed by a filter held fluid-tight against the wall of the chamber by a pressure device which can be released to allow a new filter to be put into place. Air to be tested is sucked into the chamber and through the filter by a pump. Pressure device is integral with a flexible membrane forming one wall of a fluid-tight space. Deformation of the membrane under the effect of a depression created in the space brings about the release of the pressure device allowing replacement of the filter. Pressure releasing device for freeing the filter paper for replacement simplifies existing appts. It utilises neither cams nor motors. In addn. it allows a single pump to be used with several detection apparatuses.
