Abstract

1323265 Device for reverse flow cleaning V P ABRAMOV and I I TSIRKIN 30 March 1971 8209/71 Heading BIT A device for fitment to a filter for periodically discharging cake from the filter by a reverse flow blast of compressed air, comprises a chamber 2 for connection with the filter, an inlet chamber 3 connected to a source of compressed air and an outlet chamber 4 connected to ambient atmosphere or to a vacuum line. A connecting passage between chamber 3 and chamber 2 may be closed by valve 5 and a connecting passage between chamber 4 and chamber 2 may be closed by a valve 14, these valves being associated with rod 6 in such a way that when the rod is depressed downwards then valve 5 is closed and valve 14 is opened, and when the rod is moved upwards valve 5 is opened and valve 14 is closed. The rod 6 is driven by a membrane type pneumatic drive 8 and has on its end a first slide valve 9. Compressed air is delivered to either side of the pneumatic drive selectively by a second slide valve 10. A chamber 11 above the second slide valve communicates via a throttle 12 with the first slide valve 9. In operation, compressed air is supplied to chamber 3 and to slide valves 9 and 10. Compressed air arrives via slide valve 10 into cavity 16 of the pneumatic drive and causes the rod to descend (as shown in the drawing), closing the valve 5 and stopping the reverse flow cleaning blast to the filter. However, with the rod in the lower position, slide valve 9 allows its air-source to connect via throttle 12 with the chamber 11 above the slide valve 10. This forces the slide valve 10 downwards, which shuts off air supply to chamber 16 but allows air to enter chamber 17. thus lifting the rod again, opening valve 5 and allowing the reverse flow blast. This cycle repeats automatically.
