Abstract

To eliminate backlash in a worm (2) and wheel (1) drive, the wheel is made in two parts which are symmetrical about the plane of rotation. The two parts of the wheel are keyed on to a shaft (5) and pressed together by a disc spring (6) on each side. The assembly is secured by a nut (7) screwed on to the shaft (5). The lubrication of the working faces of the mating teeth is facilitated by oil grooves which are cut transversely in the roots of the wheel teeth (3).
