Abstract

The network of pipes is buried at more than 1 metre below ground level. Hot water from a solar heat collector or waste heat from a process or any other source is supplied to the network (1). The heat is given up to the soil (7). The cooled water is recirculated to the heat source (5). The flow of water is reversed when the heat, stored in the ground, is required for space heating. The underground network may incorporate a reservoir of heated water and is coupled with a heat pump to provide the required temperature for space heating or domestic hot water.
