Abstract

Appts. for the continuous sepn. of alpha-hydroxy and alpha-amino carboxylic acids, by selective absorption from sugar-containing media, comprises (a) at least two resin-filled column connected in series, (b) means of providing to each of the columns, parallel supplies of (i) at least two constituents to be separated and (ii) a solvent, (c) means of extracting in parallel fractions rich in one of the components to be sepd. and (d) means of connecting the discharge from one column to the following column. Appts. is fitted with non-return valves on the connections between one column and the next, there being as many non-return valves as there are columns.
