Abstract

An installation and a process for the continuous sepn. of mixts. of sugars etc. by selective adsorption. The installation is of the type comprising at least two adsorption columns in series. The columns are fed in parallel with both a mixt. to be sepd. and with a solvent. Fractions enriched with different constituents of the mixt. are extracted separately from each column. Base effluent discharged from each column is piped to the head of the next column in the series. A non-return valve is fitted in the pipe connecting the base of each column to the head of the next. The installation pref. comprises a first volumetric pump to feed mixt. to the columns, a second to feed solvent to the columns and a third to draw off one of sepd. fractions extracted in parallel from the columns, partic. the fraction enriched with the constituent more strongly adsorbed in the columns. The columns are pref. packed with an organic adsorbant mateal, esp. a sulphonated polystyrene-divinylbenzene resin. Used for sepn. of sugars, such as glucose, fructose, dextrose and/or sorbitol, polysaccharides etc.
