Abstract

Method of chemically attacking an ore at high temp. with a gaseous mixt. consists of continuously circulating through a reactor a mixt. of the ore is finely divided form with the gas mixt., sepg. the reaction prod. from the mixt. and recycling the mixt. after heating by indirect heat exchange with hot gases through a heat exchanging wall or direct contact with hot solid particles which are then sepd. off prior to contact between gas mixt. and ore particles. Gas mixt. can be present in excess of the requirements of the reaction with its component in well defined proportions. Gas losses can be reduced to a min. esp. when costly or toxic. Heat loss is reduced to min. by heat exchange without diluting the gas with heating gases and smokes. Heat is transmitted to the ore particles from the heated gas mixt. which holds the particles in suspension during reaction.
